ORANGE - Two days after Election Day, At Large Councilman Donald Page said he has not yet conceded victory to West Orange Patrolman Eldridge Hawkins in their Orange
At-Large Councilman Donald Page on Election Daymayoral contest.
Hawkins beat Page on Tuesday night by a margin of 30-27%, but Page said he’s not so sure.
"We have some questions about what happened on Election Day," said the candidate, who huddled today with lawyers to examine the results.
"I’m not at liberty to say right now exactly how we’re going to pursue this," Page added.
The candidate said he never received a call from Hawkins on election night, and said he doesn’t intend to call Hawkins to formally concede until he is satisfied in his quest to determine if there were any Election Day anomalies.

YOU LOST
To put this town through this nonsense is a prime example of why you did not win. Fighting ridiculous battles that cost taxpayers money because your ego is bruised is ridiculous. You LOST. Move on. Hawkins did not call you ? I think you have this wrong. If you had won I am sure he would have come immediately to congratulate you. HE WON, congrats would be the most gracious thing YOU could do. You ego is getting in the way and it also got in the way of your team. Your done, move on.
I have no idea what exactly
I have no idea what exactly Mr Page means by "what happened on Election Day"... but I do know that I, as a handicapped person, was prevented from voting at the Orange Middle School (my poll place) in the early morning. The door at the handicap ramp was locked and no one had a key to it.
I reported this to City Hall (who didn't care or bother to ask me *which* polling place I was having trouble with), and to Essex County (who was *very* interested in my problem). I brought up the question as to how many others were unable to vote when they were registered voters, who may not have bothered to try to contact authorities, or known who to try to contact.
I was told to go back and try again, and to report it again if I still couldn't get in to vote.
Still, that door was locked, and no one had a key!
At that time, Mr Page happened to be present, and he & my husband had to physically help haul me up the side stairs to an open door.
After voting, I told everyone there that I was now going to report them yet again, because I now couldn't easily get out of the building, and it hurt my back to get up the stairs in the first place.
Suddenly, magically, the door key was discovered on one of the very people sitting there who swore she had no key to that door.
I see my surgeon Tuesday (the first appointment he had) and I certainly hope that no more spinal discs are ruptured, because there were no new ruptured discs before I had to hurt myslef to get in to vote -- my right, as a registered voter.
I don't have any notion if that's one of "the problems of Election Day" to which Mr Page is referring, but I do think that Orange needs to worry about holding clean elections where those protected by ADA are in fact able to vote.
If Mr Hawkins does not care, then perhaps Mr Page is correct, that this whole election needs investigating.
(Note - I said IF Mr Hawkins doesn't care, not that he did not care)
Get Real
No candidate had authority to open any doors, clear ramps etc. Mr. Page just happened to be there ? Was he inside the school handing out literature? Please, the Board of Elections is responsible for this. WHY WOULD YOU EVEN SUGGEST THAT MR HAWKINS OR ANY OTHER CANDIDATE WOULD NOT CARE ? I'm sure they would. You were correct in reporting this to the City and you should report it to the Board of Elections. But let me caution you, don't be a puppet of Donald Page. That you would even mention Mr. Hawkins name in this instance is an insult. If Ms Morrell had won (my choice), would you have mentioned her name. This is just Donald quacking. Beware bearing false witness. If Mr Page had participated as other candidates did and prepared homself with a platform, he might have fared better (but I doubt it). Donald you are not qualified to be Mayor or a member of the city council. Oh I forget you lost that too.
Speaking of "being qualfied"
Speaking of "being qualfied" or not... did you take your meds today, dear?
Or is your reading comprehension always this poor?
I specifically said (direct quote):
"If Mr Hawkins does not care, then perhaps Mr Page is correct, that this whole election needs investigating.
(Note - I said IF Mr Hawkins doesn't care, not that he did not care)"
Ummm - that does NOT say that Mr Hawkins (or anybody else) does not care. Reading comprehension skills are a wonderful thing. What a shame you lack them.
No, Mr Page wasn't handing anything out, as a matter of fact. Just like every other candidate, he had people out on the street doing that. He stopped to say hello to me, since I've known him for close to two decades, now, and my husband has known him for far longer. Most folks stop to say hello to people they know. Nothing odd or wrong about that, dear.
Furthermore, you prove yourself as the liar when you say that I "bear false witness".
I stated quite clearly and honestly as to what happened.
definition: legal term for "lying under oath; perjury"
I wasn't on a witness stand, nor under oath.
I spoke only the truth, the entire truth.
Go play lawyer in some child's sandbox. You're terrible at that game.
Every election official who was there knows exactly what happened. It happened just as I said it did.
Only a moron would say it didn't happen when s/he wasn't even there at the time. Now you've shown the world what a moron you are. Congratulations. You'd've done better to keep that piece of info to yourself.
I think it's a shame the Orange doesn't care about following federal law, but then it's probably due to idiots like you being in abundance in this city. You, like the City of the Township of Orange, and your favored candidates (whomever they are), will see if such blatant disregard for ADA and individuals' Constitutional Rights continues.
