As the Democratic presidential primary race reached its conclusion tonight, 12th District U.S. Rep. Rush Holt joined a pack of other previously unconfirmed superdelegates to back Barack Obama this evening.

"Barack Obama has a remarkable life story, has run a stirring campaign, and has offered an inspiring vision and an impressive strategy to bring about much-needed change in our nation," said Holt. "His successes in the primaries suggest that we can rise above cynicism and bigotry in America, and I am honored to offer my endorsement and support."

Holt was one of two high profile superdelegates to hold off on a presidential endorsement. U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who's up for reelection tonight, is not expected to endorse anyone until the presidential race wraps up.

Holt, a rocket scientist, said that he thinks Obama will "enhance the role of science in his Administration and in society at large," as well as end U.S. troops' combat involvement in Iraq and invest more in education.

"This primary campaign has been a memorable one. Senator Obama, Senator

Clinton," said Holt. "And the other Democratic candidates deserve a great deal of credit for a spirited campaign with thoughtful discussions of the ideas and values for which the Democratic Party stands and that has produced record participation, including from millions of new voters."

Democratic National Committee Finance Chairman Philip D. Murphy has also remained neutral because of his position with the organization.

Better Late Than Never!!!

Holt came around just in time to push Obama over the top and to dissuade Clinton from dragging this out utilizing procedural tactics.

Good move Rush Holt!!!

Congratulations Congressman Schmucko

You endorse Barack Obama after he clinches the nomination and Hillary suspends her campaign.

You do realize that everybody already knew that Obama would eventually win the nomination - on the evening of the Feb. 4 Primary (about 4 months ago).

So don't be surprised next year, when President Obama appoints a scientist to a position within his administration - maybe even a cabinet post, and he passes over you in favor of somebody like Bill Foster or Dan Lipinski.

Don't quit the day-job.

Ah, Rush and Obama - no

Ah, Rush and Obama - no depth required. I'm still inspired by the rocket scientist's election-winning "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" commercial. Our politicians are just so deep in their open discussion of the issues. Empty suits dominate.
