Two River Times publisher Diane Gooch filed with the Federal Election Commission today to run for the Republican nomination in the Sixth Congressional DIstrict.

Gooch, the millionaire publisher of The Two River Times and vice chair of the Monmouth County Republican Party, made couple  stops today to promote her candidacy, including one at a Sayreville diner.

"It's going pretty well. I had a busy day," she said. "The platforms that I'm running on are basically to stop the government's wasteful spending, security... lowering taxes and protecting our environment.  I love the ocean -- that's why I moved down here." 

The district's incumbent, Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch) has $4 million in the bank, and the prospect of Gooch partially self-funding her candidacy appeals to some Republican leaders.  Gooch said that she has already put $150,000 into her account and will match all donations.

When asked why she thinks Pallone does not deserve another term, Gooch cited his voting record. 

"The biggest reason is he has voted with Nancy Pelosi 99.2% of the time, and quite honestly I think that's outrageous," she said.  "He's the sponsor of the health care bill, and I am so against that it's not even funny."

Gooch actually resides just outside of the congressional district, in Rumson, but members of Congress are only required to live in the state that contains the district they represent.  She faces a primary against at least one candidate: Highlands mayor and former Monmouth County Freeholder Anna Little.
