Jack Terhune, a former Bergen County sheriff and state corrections commissioner, acknowledged that he has been approached about running for county executive, but downplayed the possibility.
“Several people have approached me, but that’s not in the cards. At least not on New Year’s Eve,” said Terhune, who is currently the borough administrator of Leonia – a heavily Democratic town. Terhune would not rule a run out entirely, however.
Bergen County Executive Dennis C. McNerney plans to seek re-election in 2010, and Republicans, fresh from defeating two incumbent Democratic freeholders in November, think they have a good shot against him.
Bergen County Clerk Kathleen Donovan is expected to announce her candidacy for the post in early January. She has already filed a certificate of organization with the Election Law Enforcement Commission, designating Republican State Commiteewoman Eleonore Nissley as her campaign chair and Fair Lawn Councilman Edward Trawinski as her treasurer.
Donovan, however, belongs to a faction of the party at odds with one led by Bergen County Republican chairman Robert Yudin and state Sen. Gerald Cardinale (R-Demarest). They were initially expected to back former Hackensack Mayor Jack Zisa, whose name no longer surfaces as a potential candidate.
Several sources named former Rochelle Park Mayor Joseph Scarpa as a potential candidate. He could not be comment, but a different source said that he plans to back Donovan’s candidacy.

Donovan
she will have a tough time convincing Cardinale and yudin that she is the most viable candidate. She is certainly not the most conservative, and she has long been a part of a county government that she plans to reform. I dont know how well that plays.
I would say scarpa is good, or mola, or Zisa.
Martin Asatrian Englewood Cliffs President
is going to be the next Republican County Exe, candidate.
He is a Phd canididate in Religion and unlike the fading fast candidate K. Donovan is happly married.
Also BCRO defacto leader Bobby Hermansen has now been set "straighten out" about Donovan and is seeking another candidate.
Joe Scarpa is also another great candidate and will be in the running if someone fades. In addition Jack Zisa is still working it and will do great at the Hackensack Convention.
Terhune who ?
yes we all know who he is. He has not been seen in Republican circles nor donated to any republican campaign
for years . He is employed by the democrats in
Leonia. If this is the only opposition we have, then lets give this nomination to Kathe Donovan now and stop this circus.
Sheriff Terhune
must agree with Garfield here. Terhune has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to beat Donovan in the convention. As I said before she is one of us
asa train
nobody knows this guy. Is he part of NJ Transit
or light rail. ? or is he just a friend of Hermansen ?
Marriage & Visibility
What is this obsession with "marriage"?! Kathe Donovan is a FAMILY person with a son. Would you be harping so much if she were a widow?!
Not only does she have the visibility of 21 years as County Clerk, but was in the State Assembly before that, and has had other state-level appointments.
Let's remember that the ultra conservative candidates aren't palatable to anyone but ultra conservative Republican voters .. win in the primary, and lose the general election .. how productive is that?!
Chris Calabrese for Bergen County Exec
would be a great alternative to any establishment candidate.
He already comes with build in name recognition.Donovan did not write a letter of support for him last year when he ran for Freeholder.
Chris Calabrese for Bergen County Exec
Cardinale should ask Calabrese to run as he is the only
person with the name recognition to beat Mc Nerney in Nov.
These are all Dino-craps
Trying to derail a winning candidacy. Ten more months.
A winning Candidate
Is what we need and that is Kathe Donovan!. Terhune is a well known RINO that loves to sleep with the enemy. Where was he for the last ten years?. Keep in mind Republicans that "THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS". This year the County Executive seat, tomorrow the world.
Republican Issues
I am confused about how the Republican Party (Bergen, Statewide, Nationally) expects to regain control of anything if they cannot gain control of themselves. Stop the nonsense and get to work! The posts I've read are unbelievable. All these provide fodder to the opposition and turn off voters that are either sitting on the fence between Rep/Dem or not going to vote at all...
I hate complaining without being able to provide solutions. I would like to be able to make a difference, but my employment prohibits entering any race....at this time! But look the hell out when I can.
