Fifis formally announces Burlco Dem leadership bid

It’s on.

Chris Fifis, the Lumberton Democratic Chairman who is the favorite of South Jersey Democratic leaders to become chairman of the Burlington County Democrats, put out a statement officially acknowledging his candidacy for the chairmanship in response to Assemblyman Herb Conaway’s (D-Delanco) decision to run for the post.

“I remain as committed to strengthening the Burlington County Democratic Party as I was when I took the fight to the entrenched GOP in 2004,” said Fifis, who that year ran unsuccessfully for freeholder and ran for assembly in 2007.

The party, currently headed by Acting Chairwoman Alice Furia, will elect a new leader in June.  The former chairman, Rick Perr --  who just last year was considered a rising star in Democratic circles after presiding over a pickup of two freeholder seats and the county clerk's office – resigned under an ethical cloud after revelations surfaced about his involvement in a PAC that raised money for arrested Hoboken mayor Peter Cammarano.  

The GOP has a 3-2 majority on the freeholder board, and this year they successfully defended two seats left open by retiring Republicans.  

Below is Fifis’s full statement:

“I remain as committed to strengthening the Burlington County Democratic Party as I was when I took the fight to the entrenched GOP in 2004. Rank and file Democrats have been encouraging me to help our party move forward as we enter a pivotal 2010. We have the opportunity to re-elect Congressman Adler, take control of the Freeholder Board, complete control of the Constitutional Offices by winning the Sheriff's race, regain control in Evesham, our largest municipality, continue our control in Pemberton and. Delran, pick up seats in Mt. Laurel and Moorestown as well as several other pivotal local races. We also face the prospect of having crucial elections for Senate in both the 7th and 8th Legislative Districts.   This is a pivotal time for our party and for the residents of Burlington County. I am interested in leading this party forward and finally breaking the GOP stranglehold on our county's government and if the best way to effectuate that is to serve as county chair then I would welcome the challenge and pursue it with an  enthusiasm and dedication never before seen.”

Fifis is so desperate to be A SOMEBODY in the democratic party that he will whore himself out because his ego knows no boundries.

Is Fifis gonna be the gift to the GOP that will keep giving and giving and giving??
