The Democratic State Committee now admits paying for a robocall to Somerset County voters that slams Republican Chris Christie and promotes independent gubernatorial candidate Christopher Daggett.
A Democratic spokeswoman says the party’s chairman, Joe Cryan, was not aware of the robocalls when he denied that the state committee had anything to do with them yesterday afternoon.
Cryan, who told PolitickerNJ.com yesterday afternoon that the Democratic State Committee had “absolutely” nothing to do with the call, could not immediately be reached for comment.
The call angered Republicans and further fueled conspiracy theories that Daggett is in cahoots with the Corzine camp. A disclaimer at the end says it was paid for by Victory ’09, “a project of the NJDSC” (Democratic State Committee), and gave the committee’s Trenton address.
Daggett, for his part, disavowed the call.
“Voters hate robocalls. This is just another instance of the dishonest ways Democrats and Republicans use to win campaigns and to fool voters,” he said in a statement this afternoon. “It is little wonder more and more voters are rejecting these kind of desperate dirty tricks and turning to my campaign for a positive message about how to make New Jersey more affordable and competitive.’’
Before the Democrats owned up to it, Daggett media advisor Bill Hillsman said the call might be a Republican trick to generate a sympathetic newspaper story.
"Yesterday, Jon Corzine's party boss Joe Cryan said that 'No, zero, nada, no,' when asked if he had anything to do with the robocalls," said Kevin Roberts, a spokesman for the Republican State Committee. "Today, it's clear that Cryan is an outright liar. Corzine's party boss knows what we know - Jon Corzine's record is so dreadful that they feel a need to try to trick voters into a second term."
In other robocall news, the Democratic State Committee is calling voters with a recording of President Obama imploring residents to “get out and vote on Tuesday, and vote for my friend and your governor, Jon Corzine.”
The Star-Ledger has audio of the call on the website.
Garden State Equality fires new broadside at Dems Smarting over the state Senate's refusal to pass marriage equality and disillusioned at the moment with the Democratic Party majority, Garden State Equality’s 85-member Board of Directors unanimously decided against giving financial contributions to political parties and their affiliated committees. ...
“We will work harder and smarter to protect consumers, to preserve civil rights, to effectively regulate the alcoholic beverage industry, to ensure that the integrity of New Jersey’s casino gaming industry continues, to keep drives, passengers and pedestrians safe on our streets, to assist victims of crimes, and to remember always the importance of juvenile justice on issues affecting the state." -- Attorney General-designate Paula Dow, at her Senate confirmation hearing.

The Truth
The Truth shall set you free! Daggett is a plant for Corzine!!!!
pathetic
What an embarrassment.
But let's hope the Republicans don't posture too much in the comment here. There are plenty of Republican dirty tricks over the years.
Who admitted to it?
That's the real question... it makes no sense. You think that's the obvious answers... but the sleeze is too easy to follow... there's something else going on...
Still going for Daggett, considering they made good points on the robo calls.
Something isn't right here.
Something isn't right here. Why would the Democrats add fuel to the "conspiracy" theory. I wouldn't be surprised if this gets traced back to the Republicans after the election. Plus, the timing is too good. This campaign keeps getting dirtier and shadier. I really won't be surprised to see some investigations take place when all is said and done.
What job will Chris Daggett
get if Corzine wins? Maybe Corzine will retire his campaign debt? Lame.
Stupid Pet Tricks
This ranks right up there with the best of Letterman.
According to the article the DSC admits to paying for the calls.
It's good for Dems this didn't come out sooner. The headlines would have been disastrous for both Corzine and Daggett.
http://christiegonewild.blogspot.com/
Who is the source here?
Do you have a name for your source at the NJ Democratic Party? or a quote? This is shoddy reporting. The story is highly questionable.
Stalking Horse!
Hello!!!???
Vote for Christie and lets end the 'grab' that goes on here everyday. We need a change in NJ and Corzine is a very shady person.
confirmed!
Daggett was suspected of being on Team Corzine from the beginning. Anyone refusing to see the light is just being willfully ignorant.
While I don't think much of Daggett, my bigger concern is that he may help put Corzine in for another 4yrs.
Who's your daddy Daggett?
Cryan is lyin and Daggetts daddy is papa smurf Corzine
and it all helps our next governor:Chris Christie
Robo calls
It speaks volumes that the Democratic party in New Jersey feels the best use of their resources is to promote a third-party’s candidate instead of their own.
The phone number from the robo calls was traced back to the Democrats, and the address repeated on the calls is the state Democrats' office address.
Robo calls
Oh, please! The number that showed up on people's caller IDs was the same one used by the Democratic party in last year's election calls. The address given at the end of the call is the state Democratic party's address. Corzine is trying to get Republican voters to flip to Dagget because that's the only way he's going to beat Christie.
Shady.....
Something isn't up to par here.
If Corzine really did pay for the calls, why where there so few made and only to Somerset county?
On the other hand, like I have been saying, the recent polls show that Dagget hurts Corzine and not Christie.
So Corzine does have motive to try to defect Daggett voters.
If voters jump the Daggett ship it will be good for Corzine. Polls show that 2 out of every 3 Daggett voters will vote Corzine when pushed to choose between Corzine and Christie.
In the end though, I would not doubt the GOP is somehow behind this as a publicity stunt.
And on Daggett's defense, have you actually listened to the robo call? It simply says at the end when you vote remember what Chris Daggett said it is never wrong to vote for the right candidate.
How does this reflect badly on Daggett?
If Daggett really was a Corzine plant why would Daggett or Corzine let the cat out of the bag right before the election?<
/b>
These calls were specifically made to Republican voters that are leaning Christie. From what I read Save Jersey (far right republican blog) broke the story when they received a robocall.
Again, something fishy about this.
Just one more example of the dirty scandalous politics that happen in this state.
NJ today you have a choice to make, Vote for real change Chris Daggett. Or you can vote Christie or Corzine and spend next 4 years calling up NJ 101.5 FM complaining about the guy you chose
The only thing fishy
is how Daggett "supporters" take offense when Daggett is accused of taking more votes from Christie than Corzine. If you actually believed in Daggett as a candidate, you wouldn't give a shit where his votes were coming from, you would believe that this is merely voters seeing Daggett's message as the best one. But just like this robocall, you are bought and paid for by the NJDSC.
Bought and paid for by Patriotism
I have been independently, for free, as a volunteer, without being involved in his campaign have been promoting Daggett since before he raised enough money to qualify for Federal funds.
Why? Because I believe in this country and after watching the numb nuts argue over health care on C-span I got sick to my stomach. Unlike the average person, I know better than to take the mainstream news as fact. More often then not very relevant details are omitted and the story is spun to favor a particular party or ideology. So instead of listening to pundits argue whether the GOP was astroturfing, I decided to watch the debate over healthcare on CSPAN myself, to get the real story.
Proposal after proposal was given by the GOP for the Healthcare bill was given to the DEMS. One suggesting if there was to be a public option then Congress should be on it and not their 'Cadillac' coverage. Another suggesting tort reform.
Those proposals and many others meant to protect citizens where struck down. The sickening part was every amendment was not even considered for its merits. Instead, in every vote, hour after hour, I watch the politicians vote strictly on partisan lines. All of the Democrats would vote one way and the Republicans all voting another.
Then, to put the icing on the cake, the next day, I see Pelosi and Reid on TV saying the republicans have no ideas and are just trying to kill the bill and defeat Obama.
That kind of politics as usual can not be allowed to continue. If it does it will mean the end to our great country. These politicians who are supposed to be representing are selling us out to serve the agenda of special interests and their own political parties.
Chris Daggett has no special interests to suck up to, no agenda of a political party and no Norcross working behind the scenes pulling his strings.
That is what bought and paid for my support of Chris Daggett. And being involved since the beginning of the campaign has done nothing to give me any reason to feel otherwise.
Christie and Corzine participate in the same unethical and immoral behaviors as the Goobers on Capitol Hill fighting over Healthcare.
And I have watch one lie after another come out of the Christie Campaign and 101.5 FM about Chris Daggett. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the money or the media exposure needed to fight back.
But those of us who really know what is going on this campaign, not just listening to attack ads on TV and perverted half truths from NJ 101.5 FM know better than to vote for Christie or Corzine.
Today NJ has a choice to make. They can chose vote for Chris Daggett. Or they can vote for Corzine or Christie and endorse the corrupt two party system and spend the next four years complaining about the guy they elected because he didn't keep up to his campaign promises and is trying to pinch every dime out of their wallets that they can.
I don't care who wins. But I will not condone the behavior of the politicians that got us into this mess. I will not enable them to continue taking us down the same path they have for the last 20 years. As long as WE THE PEOPLE continue to vote these guys into office we will continue to face the same smear, scandal and corruption that we have today.
I and just about every other voter in this state knows what the right thing to do at the polls today.
It's over
Alex.. Your enthusiasm is commendable. You just backed the wrong horse.Daggett will go down in NJ political history as a foot note. Now though his goal is to beat M Sabin's 5%
You're an ignorant moron
No one pulling Daggett's strings? Then why not pledge to not profit from a Corzine administration? Because he is the one pulling the strings. Oh, he says the same goes for a Christie administration? For some reason I don't think Christie will be looking to help Chris Daggett if he finds himself in Drumthwacket.
Enjoy your 10% of the vote, asshole.
Federal funds?
Wow Alex - you are dumber than I thought. First your blind support for Daggett had me thinking you were dumb. Your comment that there is something fishy about the report that Daggett received help from the State Dems confirmed to me you are dumb. Now, I gave you too much credit by thinking you were merely dumb and not a full blown idiot by stating that Daggett qualified for "Federal" macthing funds. Hey dumba$$ - they are state funds not Federal. Wow - Forrest Gump. Keep on supporting Daggett. A waste of a vote by a waste of a voter.
Wake up and smell the rotten fish
I am not surprised by what I'm reading here.
I called this one 6 weeks ago.
Dagget comes out of nowhere lying through his teeth about what he can and cannot do...he all of a sudden has loads of money and is making progress with the numbnuts who actually think he can win. They are insisting on voting for someone who doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell. Dagget will take the votes from Christie, We here in NJ will get that piece of crap Corzine back to drag our state further into the S***can and instead of getting some change in the right direction the stupid dems will declare a victory and a Corzine mandate and NJ will be toast.
Wake up and smell the coffee Dagget supporters....Your boy is backed and funded by the Democrats and he is attempting to hand the state back to Corzine.
Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. What a bunch of mindless clueless a**holes.
Alex Higgins says :
" I don't care who wins. "
Why? are you moving out of New Jersey?
Why? are you just another mindless democrat hack?
Why? You don't live in NJ to begin with?
Listen up dipwad...Christie may not be a Regan conservative but he's a hell of a sight better than a Marxist Flunkie like Corzine. Corzine sits there with his billions sending us into poverty while the citizenry of NJ is choked to death with taxes and poorly run government.
SO you want to waste your vote on Dagget and insure that we aren't even handed a rope to begin pulling ourselves up out of the ravine.
Christie is the rope...Corzine is the jagged rocks at the bottom...and Dagget is the guy pushing you over the edge and into the abyss.
We need to do this incrementally. You aren't going to get a 180 degree turn with Dagget or anyone else. A 45 degree change in direction is better than staying on the straight leftist road to hell.
VOTE FOR CHRIS CHRISTIE!!!
politickernj has some 'splaining to do
Who from NJDSC admitted paying for the calls?
Listen to yourself Alex
"If voters jump the Daggett ship it will be good for Corzine. Polls show that 2 out of every 3 Daggett voters will vote Corzine when pushed to choose between Corzine and Christie."
REALLY? So you are saying that Dagget more closely appeals to the Democrats and their policies than the policies of the Republicans and Chris Christie? If so what the hell are you so excited about Dagget for....he should scare the living hell out of you.
We get it now...you're nothing but a democrat insider hack trying to ruin the State of New Jersey.
VOTE FOR CHRISTIE!!
I just got the call...
...and I do not live in Somerset County.
Viva Christie!
VJ

Yo Angrydem, What part
Yo Angrydem,
What part of...
"Democratic State Committee now admits paying for a robocall to Somerset County voters..."
did you not understand.
They admitted it.
AngryDem
What part of "The call closed with a disclaimer that it was paid for by the "NJDSC, 196 West State Street, Trenton," which is the address of state Democratic headquarters." did you not understand? That was from nj.com and the tape of a call was played for their reporter.
"And I have watch one lie
"And I have watch one lie after another come out of the Christie Campaign and 101.5 FM about Chris Daggett. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the money or the media exposure needed to fight back."
I've totally lost respect for 101.5 which has obviously gone into the tank for the GOP and Christie.
I noticed that 101.5 news director Eric Scott is teaming up with Gannett Newspaper's "political reporter" and rightwing shill Bob Ingle to provide election coverage.
Fair and balanced? You decide.
http://christiegonewild.blogspot.com/
Alex?
5%? Wow - way to pick a winner there bud. A wasted vote confirmed.
The Daggett Conspiracy will come to light at some point
The Day the Star Ledger endorsed an independent with 0 chance of winning dog catcher, it was clear there is a conspiracy. It's possible Daggett has no idea he was a boob abd a pawn. When Corzine needs to resort to lowering someone's vote total rather than increasing his own, you need to wonder.
THe genius of Cryan is that he was cought and got trapped into lying. Then when the proof was presented he had to admit they were not only funding the calls but he lied.
Corzine is now finished because he aligned himself with Hillary. Maybe he can move to yet another state and run for something.
It has been obvious to all
It has been obvious to all that Daggett's candidacy was intended to appeal to those who are most sensitive to NJ political corruption. Yet, the NJ Dems were giving him the money to focus attention upon the negatives. They got what they paid for. Daggett was there to develop the protest vote, but voters knew that Christie was the only one who would be willing to address corruption.
Democrats try to speak about being the party of inclusion, equal opportunity and freedom. I know many Municipal workers and Union members who were told by their bosses they would be looking for a new job if their vote was not cast yesterday. Fortunately, some of them resented the intimidation and voted for Christie!
The party of inclusion uses words to provoke, intimidate, manipulate and make people decide with emotions instead of facts. Try asking your Democratic Municipal representatives where the budget details can be found. Try asking them why the town overcharges residents for water, trash collection and enormous legal fees to enact local legislation that was already provided by NJ State law. The Democrats hate facts. They like to project their own flaws onto those who seek to oppose them. Facts can always be used to make voters aware of their corruption.
If you start thinking about gun control, abortion, insurance coverage for mammograms and other emotional issues that have been used to make Republicans appear to be the "bad" guys, try asking about taxes, water bills, trash collection and other "services" that you are paying for. You ought to consider the scam whenever a Democrat tries to influence your emotions. They don't want voters considering the facts and where money is being spent.
We need to remember that our money is being spent with little regard for today's economic challenges. Instead of blaming any political party for the bad times, we need to work together to resolve our problems. Democrats prefer to blame and manipulate opinion. Republicans will start examining the facts and make corrections. Wake up NJ. Time for citizens to recognize that NJ costs need to be reduced. Take care of your family. The government does not do a good job and they overcharge for the service.
The Democrats are like the kids who I saw growing up who selected the homes of the elderly for a lawn cutting service. They knew that the owner was too weak to do it and they overcharged for a simple job. We ought to help our own families. Nobody cut my grandmother's lawn because I did it for free! Remember what you were taught in your own families and tell the advantage seeking Democrats to go home!
No suprise
Let's face, there was no way the Dems could honestly win this election, so they went to the gutter.
Our Conspiracies are better then theirs, based on what?
Wow, everyone here is beating up on Alex why? cause they are sore losers who don't look into their own conspiracy theories? lol. "our conspiracies are better" is what i'm hearing, even though they have no proof.
Go to the election board website, you can see who donated what to the candidacy. Daggett was not paid for by Corzine, if you think that, then you have no brain. end of story there.
Matt Friedman, I'm sorry, but this is shotty reporting. you need to disclose who came forward on this. The truth might hurt, but it needs to be told. You may want to hide who spoke out, cause that would be throwing them under a bus, but look at what the democrats did, if they actually did.
This whole story could go either way.
1. Corzine paid for this, so that people might turn from Christie's camp, republican base, but who actually listens to the robo calls? and votes because of them?
2. Christie could have paid for them, to show that the Democrats really were behind Daggett as a possible plant, which would only strengthen Christie's support.
3. A third party could have done this, i would say on Christie's behalf. As the message has said, it states their address and phone number, no paid commercial actually ever states this fact, so it would come from an outside source who wants to show in all proof that it was democrats, and they are acting unethical.
The actual truth is still out there, Daggett and Christie's camp are still looking for Answers and Jeff Brindle of the ELEC is still twiddling his thumbs... and unfortunately we probably will still see this kind of corrupt and unethical behavior for years, same old politics from the same old parties...
Ummm
Ummm - Einstein - the calls stated who sponsored the calls as required by law. It was the Democrat State Committee. Additionally, the head of the Dem State party made it clear that they funded it. Maybe before you spout off, you should try looking into the matter. Alex is a tool. You are no better.
