Corzine and Christie camps spin the QPac numbers

In an email to supporters, Chris Christie Campaign Manager Bill Stepien struck an optimistic tone despite the Quinnipiac University poll from this morning showing his candidate trailing Gov. Jon Corzine by five points.

“The good news is that voters are paying attention: 2 of the 3 public polls released in the last 24 hours show Chris ahead!” said Stepien, referring to surveys from Rasmussen Reports and Public Policy Polling that both showed Christie with a four point lead.

But neither of those polls have the heft of Quinnipiac.  The campaign itself seized on Quinnipiac’s summer poll numbers, which showed Christie leading by double digits.

Stepien did not discount today’s poll, but he did pick out one statistic that looked positive for Christie.

“Chris's lead among the all-important Independent voters grew from 9 points to 15 points since their last poll,” he said.

Democrats, of course, had an easier time spinning the poll In their favor.

Democratic State Chairman Joseph Cryan said that “Jon Corzine has pulled further ahead in this race for one simple reason.  Every day for the past four years, Jon Corzine has been an honest, dedicated public servant, fighting for what matters most for New Jersey families…. “We’re up five points with six days to go as momentum continues to grow for Jon Corzine, Loretta Weinberg and Democrats across the state. ”

Stepien the Stupid!

Can't this guy see what happened?

With his guidance Chrisite decided to ignore an important part of his base, the 140,000 Lonegan voters, and now those people are running away from Christie.

Can't "Step" see that Christies numbers are dropping with Republican voters?

By icing out Lonegan he told the Lonegan voters that they had no choice and that they should just shut up and vote Republican.

GREAT STRATEGY!!!

Just How Many Screen Names Do You Have?

Consistant drivel about Lonegan and this so-called Christie slight has gotten old fast. Alex and Firstamend, please boil a bunny already and be done with it. You're like the political version of Fatal Attraction.

HEY "STEP" ,WHERE'S LONEGAN?

A little advice for this campaign manager who is soon to oversee one of the greatest election collapses of all time.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GIVE LONEGAN A CALL!

Maybe if Christie apologized to Lonegan and his supporters for treating them with disrespect and ignoring them like political lepers they will think about voting for him on election day.

Christie,Stepien, and the republican establishment would rather lose an election then eat some crow and admit they need Steve Lonegan.

He did call Lonegan.

To the question of whether he intends to campaign in the final days with movement conservative Steve Lonegan, whom he defeated in the Republican Primary, Christie said, "I called Steve yesterday to check in with him."

Lonegan this afternoon confirmed that he received a call from Christie.

"I think I made my position pretty clear," said Lonegan. "I endorsed him. He left me a message and I returned his call, believing that we would connect and talk today, but I've spoken to Chris before and he knows he has my support."

First Fool Foot in mouth

That has to be the dumbest post ever on here.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GIVE LONEGAN A CALL!

Lonegan this afternoon confirmed that he received a call from Christie.

I think you should shut up and go sit in the corner with a dunce cap on. If you don't want to vote for Christie that's your choice,

BUT YOU DON'T SPEAK FOR LONEGAN SUPPORTERS!!

10/28/09 4:20 pm

"Check in with him?"

Sounds like Christie thought Lonegan was sick or something !

Did he think he was doing Lonegan a favor by calling him?

This is why Christie is losing. He just does not get it. HE NEEDS LONEGAN,LONEGAN DOES NOT NEED HIM!

Christie's arrogance towards Lonegan and his 140,000 supporters continues........

Unless you are Steve Lonegan and his 140,000(your number not mine) supporters---shut up. You speak for yourself---ONLY---

Christie will win be 4 plus....

10/28/09 5:41 pm

140,000 is a fact!

The number represents the number of Republican Primary voters who cast a vote for Steve Lonegan in June.

It is the number of Republicans that Christie and the Republican establishment ignored for the past 5 months.

It is the number of votes Christie wishes he could count on next tuesday.

Christie took all of these people for granted and now he needs them.

10/28/09 6:25 pm

Lonegan lost!

Lonegan would have been a terrible candidate. I agree with some of his ideas but would never have voted for him. I think people are forgetting one thing: NJ is to Democrats what Utah is for Republicans. Republicans are at a disadvantage from the start. I'm really surprised any Republican would be able to compete like Christie has, especially since Corzine is spending so much money. Even if Republicans lose, at least they put up a good fight. And the best part is Corzine's bank account has quite a bit less money in it.

10/28/09 6:35 pm

Vote

This guy is the poster child for some people having to take an IQ test before they is allowed to vote.

What do you think you are accomplishing?

You don't care about anything Lonegan said otherwise you wouldn't post this nonsense.

Lets look at this logically

The guy you claim to support is endorsing Christie and you say he isn't???

You really should see a DR. fast...

10/28/09 6:50 pm

LONEGAN WILL PICK UP THE PIECES

Steve Lonegan has been iced out of the Christie campaign for months.

Christie made that choice.Christie never thought he would need the 140,000 Lonegan primary voters.

Lonegan and his supporters now understand that after Christie loses the Republican Party will need to be overhauled.

Lonegan would have been out everyday if Chrisite asked, but Christie's ego got in the way of good political sense.

After next tuesday the Republican Party will be Lonegan's Party.

10/28/09 7:04 pm

Lonegan Again?

Most of Lonegan's "endorsement" goes back to the evening of the primary when he said that he would support the party's nominee.

If you read his comments today, it is a non endorsement. However, if Christie actually reached out to the team of Shafton/Lonegan, his campaign is in more trouble than anyone realizes except themselves.

"LONEGAN DOES NOT NEED

"LONEGAN DOES NOT NEED HIM!"

For once we agree. When Christie loses Lonegan can raise more money for his bank account (a.k.a. "Americans For Prosperity") and set himself up for another try in 2013.

"After next tuesday the Republican Party will be Lonegan's Party."

If that's the case the GOP will keep getting smaller until even the Libertarians outnumber them.

"The number represents the number of Republican Primary voters who cast a vote for Steve Lonegan in June."

And 200,000 represents the number of Republican primary voters who cast a vote AGAINST Steve Lonegan in June.

Get over it.

"I want to vote for Chris

"I want to vote for Chris Daggett, but only if he has a real chance of winning. He needs pledges from 100,000 people like me. I don't want to wait til Election Day to find out that those votes existed, but we were all afraid to cast them. So, I'm signing my name below, with my address to prove that I'm real, and pledging that if 100,000 people like me sign up, I will vote for Daggett."

Take the I'll Vote For Daggett Pledge Here

Count on 140,000 fed up Lonegan supporters

The word is out, especially after yesterday, that a vote for Christie will only set back the "cause" .

10/29/09 6:07 am

Boiled Bunnies

By 'cause', you mean the relection of Corzine. Daggett isn't even a good candidate! You rather focus more on bashing Christy then saying anything remotely substantial about Daggett.

GOTV Effort?

This weekend there are Tea Parties across the state. One has to wonder whether the Christie campaign has reached out to the Tea Partiers to ask for their support to aak for their help with the weekend's GOTV efforts. If thousands of small-gov't conservatives are protesting this weekend, they are obviously not working to help Christie get elected. This has to help Corzine.

Clearly there has been an insufficient effort to get out the conservative base in favor of Christie.

10/29/09 10:24 am

Chrisitie is against Tea Party Supporters

Congressman Joe Wilson will be 1/2 mile away from Chrisite attending a tea party event and the Chrisitie people are refusing to participate.

BUT CHRISTIE WANTS THEIR VOTES!

What arrogance!

If Christie loses by less than 140,000 he can look at the Lonegan primary supporters for the reason.

All he had to do was reach out and offer Lonegan a campaign forum but his ego got in the way.

The new conservative Republican Party will begin to form after Christie loses and leaves the political scene.

"This weekend there are Tea Parties across the state. One has to wonder whether the Christie campaign has reached out to the Tea Partiers to ask for their support"

What's he supposed to do. Dress up in silly 18th century costume and pretend like he's George Washington?

If the kool-aid crowd wants to spend their time hanging around parks while they engage in the political equivalent of oratorical masturbation while Corzine gets re-elected another four years that's fine with me because I like Corzine and won't lose any sleep over it.

Daggett is taking moderate republicans and independents away from Christie. If Christie would rather pay attention to a handful of kooks in clown suits instead of going after moderates who don't like Corzine but are hesitant about Christie so be it. Christie's loss will be Corzine's gain.

Alienate your base

The best way to lose an election is to ignore your base.

Christie has not only ignored the conservative base but he has denigrated it with his ego and arrogance.

He is too stupid to see that there ae votes at those tea parties.

10/29/09 9:38 pm

Fanov..

No one is saying that Christie has to dress up; clearly the point of my argument eludes you because, well, because your see what you want to see, not what is written.

People who take their own time to march in protest are the most motivated and politically active people there are. These are people you want on your side, participating in the GOTV effort.

That's what I said and that was the point.
