New Jersey’s senior U.S. Senator has called for a Justice Department investigation into whether former First Assistant U.S. Attorney Michele Brown aided former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie’s gubernatorial candidacy when she was still at the office.
"It is shocking to learn that a former deputy to Chris Christie was conducting a political campaign within the U.S. Attorney's Office,” said U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-Cliffside Park) in a statement. "It was particularly distressing that this raw political agenda came into an office with a historic reputation for fair and unbiased dispensation of justice, and Ms. Brown went so far as to try to bring political campaign objectives into the planning of law enforcement actions. The Department of Justice must initiate an investigation into this matter.”
The New York Times broke the story on its Web site last night, citing three unnamed federal law enforcement officials who claimed that Brown wanted to move up the date of the July corruption sting to ensure Christie got credit for it, and was more involved in dealing with the Corzine campaign’s Freedom of Informaiton Act requests than previously disclosed.
Lautenberg was the main booster for the appointment of New Jersey’s new U.S. Attorney, Paul Fishman, who was sworn in last week.
”I am confident that with its new leader in place, the U.S. Attorney's office will meet its obligation to enforce the law with integrity and fairness - free from political interference,” he said.

Both parties want
Both parties want investigations launched into the other parties campaign workings. It's pretty ridiculous at this point. lol
Corzine and Lautenberg are abusing their power.
Lautenberg is misuing his Senator’s office in an attempt to smear Christie and help Corzine.
Where is the investigation into Corzine's efforts to force ranking state workers telling them to publish articles in favor of Corzine’s failure to create jobs?
Frank woke up from his nap?
All the real stealing and corruption going on in this State and this old "coot" call for an investigation 2 weeks left in an election?
Its laughable if it wasn't so pathetic
Go back to sleep Frank, its amazing your still in office, that should be investigated!!!
One set of rules for him (and his girlfriend)
One set of rules for everyone else.
You've got to get CC a C for consistency, at least.
Girlfriend? Corzine likes to molest little boys.
That's what the NY Times reports.
weird.
I guess your guy didn't prep you on the other shoe.
You mean Corzine's connections to organized crime?
Whoops, almost blew the WSJ's story this weekend.
Christie Is A Criminal...
....after he loses election; a special prosecutor needs to be appointed to look into all of the criminal allegations.
Maybe Brown will squeal if she's confronted with a long prison sentence.
The problem goes way beyond Christie, and his party. There are probably a couple of thousand corrupt pols in NJ (and the "Johns" that buy them off) that belong in prison....and yes, most of them are probably Democrats!
The problem with you Christie supporters is that you can't admit that your boy is a certifiable asshole. The evidence for that is overwhelming....and that's why he's blown a massive lead in a terrible economy against an unpopular governor.
You also are too reluctant to prosecute Republican corruption...and that's just plain hypocritical. The machine politics/corruption in NJ is SYSTEMIC!!!
I've been telling y'all for years that Christie was/is a petty partisan hack, and now the hard evidence bears out my long standing opinion.
If Christie had any sense and guts he would drop out and give Daggett a clear shot....and he would call on your Party to give Daggett a few million bucks to get out his message.
If Corzine remained personallly passive in that race; he would lose......he would have to put his own guts on the line to win such a contest.
131 convictions out of 131 indicted.
How many has Corzine indicted? Oh, most of those indicted are part of Corzine's corrupt machine.
Let's Have An Investigation...
...this way we can determine exactly how much pressure Uncle Frank applied on the FDA, causing them to approve failed knee repair devices.
