Yudin on Oury's guilty plea

Bergen County Republican Chairman Bob Yudin said Republican gubernatorial nominee Chris Christie deserves credit for the guilty plea of Dennis Oury, the former Bergen County Democratic counsel and municipal attorney for several of the county’s towns.

Christie indicted Oury and Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joe Ferriero last year, when he was still U.S. Attorney.

“Chris Christie is still batting 1,000.  He hasn’t lost a case yet.  As far as Ferriero’s concerned, that’s up to the jury,” said Yudin.

Bergen County is a major battleground this year, and Christie dealt the Democratic Party there a serious blow when he indicted Oury and Ferriero.  Ferriero, chairman since 1998, was a prolific fundraiser who took the Democrats from being a perennial minority party to controlling all but one county-wide office.

Yudin has faced criticism from within the party for campaigning too heavily on corruption during his three times as a candidate for freeholder and while overseeing last year’s freeholder race.  The two candidates this year have been noticeably more quiet on the issue.

“I think that issue has probably reached its zenith,” said Yudin.    Whether the trial of Ferriero and whether he is found guilty will make any difference at this point, I just don’t know.”

“The polling data we have shows that the most important issue to the taxpayers is overwhelmingly taxes and particularly property taxes, and that will be what we will definitely talk about.”

Bob Yudin is a proven loser. The only way he can win is by riding the christie wave. If he doesnt win this year, he should be banned from politics in new jersey.

Christie's prosecutions were obviously politically motivated. He was planning to dismantle the democratic party to clear a path to the governor's office.

BIASED

Why do you have to buddies with someone to call it how you see it? This was completely politically motivated and the only reason Oury pled is because they gave him a sweetheart deal to LIE. Oury did not file his taxes but Ferriero did. Now why would someone do that if they were trying to hide something? The government should be fighting terror instead on clearing the way for the Republicans. I wonder how many FBI agents Christie put on this case to ensure he keeps "batting a 1,000".

Property Taxes

Yes, give Christie credit on 2 counts: successful prosecutions and talking about property taxes. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that's all Christie will do about property taxes. Talk.

I cant hold my tongue on

I cant hold my tongue on this one.... Yudin please disclose to us about your no-show job at the Meadowlands Commission while running your appliance store. Someone should investigate your "honest services" fraud. I bet Christie would still be "batting a 1,000".

Big difference between Oury & Ferriero

Oury had no choice but to plead guilty. He didn't file taxes on the money he made (you can bet Ferriero did or he would also be charged with tax evasion).

But Oury's biggest problem is that he worked for the town of Bergenfield and as an employee he had a legal duty to disclose his interest in the company, while Ferriero did NOT work for Bergenfield and had no legal duty to disclose anything to anyone.

The only way Ferriero can be found guilty is if the jury believes he helped Oury avoid disclosing Oury's conflict. There is nothing strange or unusual about the principals of a corporation not putting their names on legal papers as directors or officers. That is very common. But can the prosecutor prove beyond a reasonable doubt, as he must, that the reason Ferriero did that was to help Oury hide his interest rather than to keep those who regularly peruse public records from getting their noses into what Ferriero considered his private business?
