Corzine statement on Brown resignation

Governor Corzine's campaign does not want to let the story about Republican gubernatorial nominee Chris Christie's loan to former U.S. Attorney Office subordinate Michele Brown end with her resignation.

Less than an hour after the news broke of her resignation, Corzine spokeswoman Elisabeth Smith released the following statement:

“Michele Brown’s resignation today does nothing to put to rest questions about Christie’s conduct both in and outside of the U.S. Attorney’s office. Whether it was illegally laying the groundwork for his gubernatorial campaign from the U.S. Attorney’s office with the help of Karl Rove, maintaining a secret financial relationship with the number two at the U.S. Attorney’s office during his campaign, or rewarding political cronies with millions of dollars in no-bid contracts, Christie still must answer to serious legal and ethical questions. He can start by demanding the immediate release of public documents from his tenure as U.S. Attorney as requested by the Corzine campaign.”

Corzine---the man has NO SHAME

Hypocrites..... If she paid back the loan you would want her to do something else. And then something else. She is smart enough to know that the Corzine(D-Reckless) smear machine was not going to let up.

Jon Corzine(D-Reckless) is truly a bad man,. He and his disgusting staff, have crucified a true public servant for political gain.

As Corzine's wife said 4 years ago after he cheated on her .."He lied to his family, and he will lie to the people of NJ too".

This man truly is a disgrace. Corzine(D-Liar) has lived his personal life recklessly and his professional life has been dominated by him bad mouthing anyone that crosses his path.

Total LOW LIFE......Once again, Corzine(D-Liar) has stood in the way of justice and the greater good.

Mr. Transparency has been anything but since he entered politics. If he wants to play this dangerous game of win at all costs---my guess is that there will be a parade of former aides who will be happy to speak of his "Don Juan" efforts---you can't pay off everyone.....too many loans to former aides and "friends"...too many "pro-choices" taken advantage of since 2000....you're a bad guy and soon NJ will send you packing.

"Don't let facts get in the way"....Corzine '09

CRAZY

How about the Gov show us the emails which I'm sure are a lot more juicy... that will never happen because so many people would be incriminated, it wouldn't be funny.. well to some it might be.

ashcroft, gonzalez, mukasey, goodling,sampson,rove.....

Running for office as a goody-two-shoes, political cleaner-upper, and ethics monitor is the absolute worst way to try to get elected.....unless you have never, ever done anything wrong. These are the worst statements to utter: "things for things", "the amount doesn't matter", and "Hahaha Hehehe". cc was led down the wrong path by someone. He listened to the wrong people. As one of my favorite college profs used to say, "All decisions come down to expediency v. morality." Case closed.

Abuse of Power

The Democrats are abusing their power. Just look at what they are doing with the CIA and VP Cheney. Two words- political prosecutions. They are the ones trying to satisfy their liberal voters and frankly it is a losing issue to the general public. Change policy. The people elected B.O. because they wanted change. That is fine. But don't go after prior officials because you disagree with their policy.

The Democrats have no credibility.

It's all slipping away, GOP!

And you have no one to blame for your all your obvious anger but your own gluttonous guy.

I don't blame you. So close, and yet so far. But the implosion comes from no where but within. The smarter of you will come to realize this, as the light of day continues to shine on this stinker of a candidate you picked.

I know you can feel it. That's pride effing with you. Eff pride. Pride always hurts, it never helps.

Brown's Resignation Is Weak/Failed Damage Control

(Crossposted from Bluejersey.com)

Michele Brown gets a point for being willing to "fall on her sword" for Chris Christie.  Resigning was the least she could do to try to put these matters to rest and to try to have her ethically questionable relationship with her ex boss Christie not be a "distraction".

Unfortunately for Christie and Brown, quitting her job just adds fuel to the fire.

Brown and Christie need to be investigated and questioned under oath regarding the precise nature of their relationship vis a vis the political conversations they may or may not have had.   Obviously they can always "take the fifth"; or they can simply tell the truth, the whole truth...and nothing but the truth, under oath.

On the other hand, if this really was just a loan to help a coworker....and NOTHING MORE; then it's a shame that Brown felt compelled to resign.

However......if Brown and Christie EVER discussed his candidacy and EVER strategized in ANY way to advance his candidacy; then that's a potential violation of the Hatch act and a legitimate matter for law enforcement to investigate.

Frankly, unless there's some smoking gun out there (or someone decides to confess) I doubt there will ever be a serious investigation of this (anytime soon) just because it would be framed by Christie supporters like a Democratic administration was trying to discredit a Republican candidate.

Theoretically, there could be an investigation after the election.....but if Christie wins it still will be framed as political....and if he loses; prosecutorial discretion might determine that it's a moot point and why bother.

Bottom line; the only way for Christie and Brown to begin to clear this up would be to voluntarily demand, and then submit to an immediate congressional investigation where they could BOTH testify under oath as to the FULL extent of their political/personal relationship...and to then be willing to spend a whole day (if that's what it took) to answer any and all questions from any and all press (and that includes folks like our own Rosie Efthim).

Again, if this was truly and honestly nothing more than a legitimate loan that Christie forgot to declare on all of his federal reporting forms and income tax returns and that there was no/none/zero inappropriate relationship with Brown; then it would be to Christie's advantage to AGGRESSIVELY go PUBLIC in the way I describe above.

(At the very least, Christie is clearly guilty of terrible judgment and a kind of incompetent carelessness that boggles the mind when one considers that he wants to become our GOVERNOR!!!  And that's assuming the best case scenario for Christie.)

To Christie and Brown:   Get the truth out....and if you're telling the truth....it can only help you to tell it all, under oath and in public.

On the other hand....if you have something to hide; it's understandable that you will ignore my advice and just keep on doing what you're doing....and the people of New jersey will then be left to draw their own conclusions.

thanks
