Yudin keeps Lonegan on BCRO convention ballot BCRO Chair Bob Yudin

Gubernatorial candidate Steve Lonegan’s campaign yesterday asked Bergen County Republican Chairman Bob Yudin to take Lonegan’s name off the ballot for tomorrow night’s convention in his home county.

Today, Yudin refused.

“To now, just 48 hours before the convention, ask to have his name removed, I don’t feel is proper and therefore we will move on with the convention,” said Yudin. “First it denies the Lonegan rank and file an opportunity to vote for their man. Second of all we have a process in place.”

Yudin said that the fact that the ballots are already printed factored into his decision as well.

Lonegan strategist Rick Shaftan said that his campaign made the request because Lonegan does not plan to compete at any county conventions, which he considers rigged in favor of establishment frontrunner Chris Christie.

“People have got to find Chris Christie on the line – he’s got to have it. But Lonegan doesn’t have the have the line. He can be anywhere on the ballot.”

Mountaintop--your burn rate is a 3 alarmer

Keep the distortions and negative mailings coming. It belittles your "idea man", but does pad your pocket and keep you in Strom Thurmand shirts.

will Bergen wake up before its too late ?

Did Christie ask Democrats to run him as their candidate ?

Did christie vote against Republican Tax cuts ( star Ledger( 4/22/93)

Did Christie call supporters of the 2nd amendment " EXTREMISTS "

( Star Ledger 9,30,94, Daily Record 6/1/95) ?

This guy is worse than Obama / Corzine

Did he say the Illegal immigration is not a crime ( star Ledger 4/28/08.

So sad

Lonegan has good ideas and it would be interesting to see a Lonegan-Corzine debate. I'm going to vote for him. But, after years of planning, the Lonegan campaign is still talking to itself.
Schundler won off the line in 2001 because Bob Franks was a last minute replacement. Voters saw through that dodge. But Christie is a serious opponent and voters will accept him over a candidate sitting all alone in the fourth column.
The lines matter. Why can't the conservatives accept this simple fact?

Lonegan = LULZY

Anybody else think the Loengan campaign is totally lulzy?

Did Lonegan ever, ever have a plan to win? Are you telling me he wanted to run as a Republican but planned on sitting out the Republican County Conventions? LOL.

If you are not going to even try to win the support of the Republican party, why run as a Republican? Why not just run as a 'conservative' on your own line?

I think the answer is that having a strongly right-of-center candidate "somewhere" on the ballot to pull votes right-leaning Republicans away from Christie in the general is the only hope Corzine/Codey has of winning.

Lonegan = Ross Perot. The only purpose Lonegan serves is to force Christie to fight a two-front war. And that serves the interests of Corzine/Codey, not the taxpayers of NJ.

BR

How many conventions will there be out of 21 counties?

BergenRulz...of course that's what he's doing!

Lonegan's top dog is Rick Shaftan - who works for Democrats in North Arlington and Hudson Dem Sen. Nick Sacco! They guy hasn't won anything for a Republican in decades...he's nothing but a RINO who answers to his Democrat bosses who tell him to screw with good Republican candidates and help his real masters. The real shame is that Lonegan has gotten taken by this slimebag and is getting his good name dragged through the mud.

Lonegan for LG

Steve bow out now and jump onboard for LG

Christie for NJ AG

As he was quoted in the Star-Ledger on 1/18/09 (http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/jersey/index.ssf?/base/news-12/12322563854...),

""I would have really loved to stay as U.S. attorney and, if John McCain had won, I would have liked to pursue that option.” After McCain lost, Christie said he spoke with prospective employers and headhunters about job prospects, but in the end he realized the run for governor was what he really wanted."

Clearly, from this statement, his desire to be Governor is not motivated by a drive to solve NJ's problems. This is why he has avoided providing specific answers to questions and why he needs so many "advisors" thereby opening himself up to manipulation by them. The Governorship is just another job to bide his time. His passion, and what he has proven to do well, is prosecute criminals. The best place for him would be as Attorney General of NJ. There, he could continue the fine job he had been performing as US Attorney.

Loonegan putting "taxpayers first"

"Keep the distortions and negative mailings coming. It belittles your "idea man", but does pad your pocket and keep you in Strom Thurmand shirts."

Paid for with our tax dollars.

Loonegan and Shaftan are making fools of themselves, as usual.

It's a good thing Shaftan wasn't Captain on the Titanic. Instead of putting women and children first into the lifeboats he would have kept them on board and organized bucket brigades.

WOW

Love the eyebrows!

what party is this ?

The Republican Party NOT.

Please name any Christie speech where he articulates Republican Values ? if NJ Republicans cant come up with a likable and articulate candidate who believes in Republican ideas, we might as well all stay home in 2009.

Clifford Case and Ruiz etc etc cant refute one claim in Lonegans mailer. NOT ONE

shocking revelations

If any of the Lonegan accusations above are true. Then Sorry folks this election is already lost. Christie already has the primary locked up because NJ Republicans were too lazy to do their due diligence and vet each candidates Republican and electability credentials. When you put Christies lack of Republican record against   Lonegans  unfavorable factor we have a wash. We are sadly left without a candidate who has 100% party support to go up against Corzine and his machine. Better luck next time.

county conventions

first of all, only one county has actually had a convention, that is Union. Bergen will be the 2nd one. Every other so called line has been a "screening committee". This is because there is a fear in the machine that Lonegan might actually get a line or three. Then they would have to rig the primary like they did last year with Pinacchio winning multiple lines and yet somehow Zimmer ends up wnning the primary.

Why everyone is so afraid of that loser Tom Wilson and his cronies is beyond me. They have NEVER won a single thing. Liberal polictical losers (this not name calling, it is a fact), and for some reason we just move right along with them.

Thank you

Thank you to Paramus for making my point. Lonegan supporters with the exception of one on this board so far will take their ball and go home rather than support the Republican Party's choice in the primary. And people wonder why Republican's don't win statewide.

Tis better....

Wouldn't you say it is better to vote for Lonegan and win in November than to vote for Christie and lose?

oc

I believe it is more likely that the CC people would take their ball home if they lost. This has been a GOP tradition going back to Rockefeller/Goldwater and Case/Bell days.

The more conservative/rightwing would vote CC over JC as the lesser of two evils. Then make CC's term a living hell once he is in office.

CC would lose if he doesn't incorporate the SL structure into the post Primary campaign. Not that the SL people would expect patronage, rather they are viewed as less than loyal to begin with. The usual establishment philosophy has been one of hubris that their position in a General Election is self-evident. They haven't figured out that "we are not them" is not a rousing battle cry. Nor, that "trust me" is some cultures is the same as "you are screwed".

"I believe it is more likely

"I believe it is more likely that the CC people would take their ball home if they lost. This has been a GOP tradition going back to Rockefeller/Goldwater and Case/Bell days."

Why should moderates stay home? I was a Rockefeller Republican who supported Lyndon Johnson against Barry Goldwater and I supported Bill Bradley against Jeff Bell.

If wingnuts take over the GOP and Loonegan is the GOP nominee I will not go home. Instead I will go to the polls and cast my vote for Jon Corzine because I believe the man is more important than the party, and Jon Corzine is a better man than Steve Loonegan (which isn't saying much).

Wingnuts can never win statewide in New Jersey because most NJ Republicans are mainstream voters who reject extremism and will vote for the better candidate regardless of party affiliation.

Can anyone articulate...

...a cogent clear case for Christie that would compel a conservative Republican to cast his vote for the man? What is the Christie platform / plan for:

  • reducing per capita govenment spending
  • reducing state income and sales taxes
  • reducing property taxes
  • reducing the size of government
  • reinvigorating the business climate in NJ
  • ending the transfer of wealth from suburbs to the cities (Abbot Districts)
  • reducing government regulation of business
  •  improving the regulatory climate for business
  •  implementing school vouchers
  •  prosecuting and deporting illegal alien criminals
  • allowing towns and cities to manage development within their towns; not forcing them to build subsidized housing (COAH)
  •  revitalizing the Republican Party in New Jersey
  • Forcing school systems to live within their means and budgets and to get results with the money they currently receive.

There is a lot of sophomoric childish nonsense written on this site but not any where near enough debate of actual issues. I don't read everything on this site but I see just about nothing and no one actually describing how Christie appeals to conservatives on the above issues. Is there a Christie advocate up to the challenge ?

Eyebrows

Are those really Yudin's eyebrows or are they drawn on?

In answer to a Christie person and Kafarski's list

The answer to your question is NO!  There is not a single Christie supporter who can tell you where he stand on those issues or any others because they do not know themselves, because Christie does not know.  The reality of his entire campaign for Governor is because he was aksed to run by the powers that be not in order to keep the conservatives in the state from finally getting the NJGOP back on track.  This of course would mean they would all lose their jobs after June 3rd and in terms of elected officials after a Lonegan win many of the leftists in the Republican party would find themselves with conservative primary opponants, and we cannot have that now can we?!

Chris Christie has two more letter he can add for some, PC, POLITICAL COWARD!  He canceles debate after debate with us wingnuts, ha ha.  Corzine will eat him and his bush anchor for a snack.  I have said before if he is the nominee he will be lucky if he gets 30% of the total vote in November, all I have seen is that might be too high an estimate.

Hey Christie and your staff, show up somewhere when scheduled, answer some questions, and DEBATE and argue.  Surely a brilliant lawyer such as yourslef can defeat a kithcen cabinet maker right?!

Come on

What debate was set up? It is more a figment of Rick Shaftan's imagination. They were not debates, scheduled or otherwise. Please provide facts and not baseless accusations.

DiMarco - I don't think Christie will lose and I certainly don't think Lonegan is electable - as I have stated a few hundred times. My support is going to the electable one.

I do not think "moderates" will stay at home, nor would they support Corzine or a third party if hell froze over and Lonegan won the primary. I do see conservatives not coming out or supporting antoher Murray Sabrin independent run. I am sure Murray is gathering his four or five inner circle guys who keep telling him he has a shot in hell of winning and contemplating yet another run - as an independent. Do I know for a fact? No - but history does have a way of repeated itself. All we have to do is look at this thread and see the comments about why should conservatives not stay home. Pretty clear to me. This conservative will vote for the most electable candidate - Chris Christie.

Kafarski - many of your questions are answered on Chris' website. I suggest you do you homework before you go on another rant - and happy reading!

Cliffy

You proved my point. The "moderates" are bigger soreheads than the "wingnuts" in the party. And, you haven't addressed the question that there are non-Christie people out there as opposed to being pro-Lonegan. The polls have a large number almost equalling Christie support than is still undecided. If CC is the "obvious choice", why so many holding back?

I have yet

I have yet to see one person who is supporting Christie in the primary on this site say he or she would not support the eventual nominee should it not be Christie. I have pointed out that some "conservatives" here have stated that would not vote for Christie on this site and thread. So your point has not been proved - it has been proved wrong. And if you are reading the polls - the entire poll - you still see that CC is still not entirely known by the party. However, the majority of those who do know him, are supporting him. Up by 28 and counting.

"The "moderates" are bigger

"The "moderates" are bigger soreheads than the "wingnuts" in the party."

I won't be sore if hell freezes over and Loonegan wins the primary. I'll just vote for the better man who happens to be Jon Corzine. And I'm sure I won't be the only registered Republican who votes for Corzine over Loonegan.

If Republicans want to have more than a remote chance to win they need to reject extremism and bigotry and support Consistent Conservatgive Chris Christie (4C).

4C is the only candidate who can unite mainstream Republicans as well as attract centrist Democrats and Independents. Even if he doesn't win he'll make it close enough to ensure that Republicans retain or even gain a few elective offices to maintain their viability as a political party.

debates amd librals

Yes OC, a Republican club, committee or other organization schedules a candidates night and they call the event a "debate" and advertises it that way. Then the night before (this has been a regular occurance) Poltical Coward Christie wll either cancel outright or tell the organizers that he is making a "statement only" and will NOT talk to Lonegan and will NOT take questions. Shafton propaganda, sure right?!

Cliff, liberals vote for liberals, and conservatives are not interested in "uniting" with liberals. So go ahead and vote for Corzine after we win in June, it is what liberals are going to do anyway. Once again, no such thing as a "moderate".

One more time...

OC,

I know we have gone 'round and 'round on this. If you believe conservatives will sit home in November if Lonegan does not win the primary, then Christie will most likely lose against Corzine because the Republican candidate cannot win without the support of conservatives. Therefore, by supporting Christie you are assuring 4 more years of democrat control. Polls indicate that Lonegan is also beating Corzine. Since, as you stated, those supporting Christie would support the eventual nominee should it not be Christie, if Steve Lonegan wins the primary, he gets the conservatives as well as the party people. Only with this united front will the Republican candidate become our next Governor.

ROund and round

Yet again is right. I have already told you that Lonegan won't get the independent vote nor will he get angry Democrats to vote for him - with the deficit Republicans face at the voting booth, we will need both as well as our entire party for our candidate to win. Chris Christie is the only one who can do this - that is why Lonegan is unelectable.

Party conventions and candidates nights are not debates. Any elementary school kid knows the difference. You claim(ed) they were debates. They are not. Period. They were never advertised as debates between the two candidates. Debates will occur. Don't get your panties in a bunch. But to try to pull the old Democrat trick of claiming something is one thing when it is obviously is not, is beneath our party. Stick to the facts. And why should Chris "talk" to Lonegan? His attack dogs includng you call him names because you can't beat him any other way. What are you going to call him next, poo-poo face? Grow up.

"Polls indicate that Lonegan

"Polls indicate that Lonegan is also beating Corzine."

So would Uncle Floyd. November polls are meaningless this time of year. If they took a poll right now even Florio would beat Corzine.

Consistent Conservative Chris Christie (4C) needs to think beyond the primary. Republican candidates win statewide (Kean, Whitman) when they move to the center, not to the right, after a primary.

4C will get overwhelming support from GOP voters. Maybe a few dozen wingnuts will stay home and cry in their kool-aid or vote third party, but it won't influence the outcome.

There are millions of votes to be counted, and most of them will come from moderate independents and democrats. 4C needs to move in their direction to make this a competitive race.

Name calling

OC is correct, I will stop calling names, I apologize for calling him PC.

Since we know so little about the man and nothing of his policies, calling him names is not appropriate. I will wait for better descriptives once we hear what he thinks and what he has to say.

When will that be by the way.......

I would

I would suggest that you check out Chris' website where he articulates several policy positions in detail which will get our state moving forward again.

And it takes a big person to apologize and admit a mistake. Thank you.

Christie's website and his "specifics"

OC, I have once again checked the Christie for Governor website.  He contradicts himseld all over the place.  Here are just a few examples:

He claims he will cut spending, all programs are "on the table".  While at the same time pushing his auditor department.  It makes zero sense to state you want t cut the budget on the one hand and create a whole new department on the other.

Steve Lonegan has given us a very specific number, 20%.  That is how much he will cut the budget.  Everything on the table is not a specific.

He also claims that the highland and COAH are in contradiction, great, this is common knowledge,  He then goes onto to mention how COAH can and will be implemented in already developed land.  He does not mention ONCE how both of these ideas are to be nice, STUPID and how one has bankrupted entire communities (Highlands) while the other will cause the states total donwfall (COAH) as well as the fact that COAH is NOT legislation, it is forced ideas from his lawyer buddies on the courts.

Steve Lonegan has clearly said, COAH is finished as an idea under his leadership, he will NOT fund it.

To be fair, he does have some specific ideas on tax cuts.  Like cutting the income taxes.  However in this section of the website he once again grows government.  His "red tape review group" is yet another department that would require funding.  We do not need anymore useless commissions on this or that, we need most of these commissions to go away because they make reccomendations after years of "study" that are usually simple common sense.

Steve Lonegan will institute a flat income tax of 2.9% in the first year and it will drop to 2.5% and then 2.1% by the end of this term.

As a side note unrelated, Conservatives with Attitude had a paid breakfast in which over 100 people from across the state showed up and paid money to attend on Saturday.  Chris Christie once again was a no show.  He did not cancel or anything since he never RSVP in the first place.  Lonegan won with 87% of a straw poll.  These are Republican voters and grass roots.

Just because

Just because you don't like the answers does not mean there are not specifics. Picking and choosing whcih sentences to extract in order ot make your point is easy. So 100 people is a true representation of Republican voters in the state? Give me a break.

100 people

I never meant to say it was repesentative of anything other then Christie skipping yet another event that is not either a convention or screening committee.  That was my only point with this one.

To be fair, maybe Lonegan should go to official "conventions".  However skipping those fake "screening committees" I totally support since everyone knows what the results of those are going to be.  Thus far, there have been only two conventions, and Lonegan went to one of them.

I gave Christie creidt for giving specific examples of how he will cut the income tax, but it is moot since after he is done with all of his paid commissions and new departments he will be unable to do so.
