Peterson shows off Hunterdon County support

Hunterdon County Freeholder Erik Peterson today announced the endorsement of over 20 elected officials from nine Hunterdon County towns for his 23rd District assembly bid.

Among the endorsers was Hampton Borough Mayor Robert Walton, who despite Peterson’s moderate reputation called him “accessible, honest and conservative.”

Clinton Township Mayor Kevin Cimei cited Peterson’s help in purchasing of the Windy Acres property as proof of his commitment to open space and farmland preservation.

“He understands how Open space and Farmland preservation helps maintain the character of our communities and to keep taxes down,” said Cimei.

Peterson is running in a field of three candidates for one of two assembly openings created by Marcia Karrow’s (R-Raritan) elevation to the state Senate and Assemblyman Mike Doherty’s (R-Washington Twp.) vow to take her on in the primary.  Peterson is the favored candidate of U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton), a personal friend of his who until last month held the seat now occupied by Karrow.

Hunterdon County Freeholder Matt Holt and Warren County Freeholder John DiMaio are also running.
