Conservative activist Steve Lonegan will announce his decision on whether or not he’s going to run for governor on December 1st.
“It’s going to be a blast,” said Lonegan, the former mayor of Bogota. “I’m looking forward to it. There’s a potential for a really good primary here.”
That date coincides with U.S. Attorney Chris Christie’s resignation from office, which he announced today. Christie is the Republican establishment’s favorite to run for Governor. But Lonegan said the timing was a coincidence.
Lonegan’s campaign kickoff -- or lack thereof, in the unlikely event that he decides not to run -- will probably be held in either Edison or Woodbridge.
Lonegan also added his voice to state Sen. Joe Pennacchio’s call for Republican State Chairman Tom Wilson to resign before his term is up in June.
“But apparently he has to stay in place to support Chris Christie for governor… The Republican insiders all gather around the candidate. The decision is going to be is this next campaign about rebuilding the Republican party with new vision, cutting taxes and new government, or the same old same old. That’s what parties are for. It’s going to be a blast.”
