SPRINGFIELD -- It’s probably the millionth time he’s answered the question, but Gov. Corzine once again today downplayed the possibility that he would accept a cabinet position in the Obama Administration if offered.
“I like my job,” he said.
Still, Corzine chose not to make his response unequivocal. Some insiders are still convinced that he would like to be Secretary of the Treasury, no matter how many times he says otherwise.
On the other hand, Corzine said he would support former Republican Gov. Tom Kean, Sr., a McCain supporter, for Secretary of Education. His name recently turned up in a Politico story speculating about Obama’s cabinet picks (Kean, the former president of Drew University, has been offered three cabinet positions by two presidents over the course of his career).
“Of course I would [support Kean]. I think there’s a high probability that Sen. Obama will have serious bipartisan participation in his cabinet. I think that’s a good thing, and I feel good about Gov. Kean as someone who’s always been committed to education,” he said. “Believe me, I think without bipartisanship we can’t move the ball forward on a lot of things. I’d like to see more of it here in New Jersey. The fact is that here we spend more time resisting and pushing back against things than trying to move the ball forward.”
In September, Kean told PolitickerNJ that he would again turn down any cabinet position offer – presumably by McCain.
On the personal finance front, Corzine said that his portfolio has “paralleled the market.”
But does that mean he’ll be putting less of his money into his reelection bid next year?
“I haven’t thought about that yet,” he said.

same cr$p every presidential election year
The same old comments about the Governor wanting to stay put and Tom Kean becoming Sec of Ed every presidential election year. Look it up. The reality is, Corzine would jump at a chance to escape NJ and his lousy polls for a cabinet position in Obama's DC. And why the heck would Obama choose as his Ed Secretary a guy who endorsed his opponent and is likely behind the curve in education policy at this stage in his life - when he can choose from a dozen or so advisors who supported him? At least try to be original, Corzine...

The only silver lining to an Obama presidency is the Corzine will leave NJ.
