Editorial writers from newspaper across New Jersey agree that Barack Obama should be the next president.
Newspapers vary on most other endorsements, however.
Below is a list of federal endorsements made by New Jersey papers and the two major out-of-state publications that cover New Jersey.
President
The Star-Ledger, Asbury Park Press, Bergen Record, Trenton Times, Gloucester County Times, Courier-Post, Vineland Daily Journal, Courier-News and Home News Tribune all endorsed Barack Obama. The Philadelphia Inquirer, which covers parts of South Jersey, backed Obama, as did The New York Times, which until recently covered New Jersey politics extensively.
John McCain has yet to win an endorsement from any daily newspaper that covers New Jersey.
U.S. Senate
Incumbent Frank Lautenberg (D-Cliffside Park) has The New York Times and The Home News Tribune, and Star-Ledger.
Zimmer has been endorsements by the Asbury Park Press, Philadelphia Inquirer and Courier Post coming out for him.
House
District 1
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews (D-Haddon Heights) angered the media so much by reversing his promise not to run again for his House seat a that he has not yet won any endorsements from major newspapers.
So far, all three dailies that cover the area around the 1st Congressional District -- The Philadelphia Inquirer and Courier-Post and Gloucester County Times -- have endorsed his long-shot opponent, Dale Glading.
District 2
The Philadelphia Inquirer endorsed U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-Vineland) over Democrat David Kurkowski, a Cape May Councilman.
District 3
State Sen. John Adler likes to point out his monetary lead. Now he can boast of a major endorsement lead as well.
Adler has been endorsed by the Press of Atlantic City, Philadelphia Inquirer, Courier-Post, Burlington County Times and New York Times
Myers won over the editorial board of the Asbury Park Press.
District 4
U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (R-Hamilton) was endorsed by the Asbury Park Press and The Philadelphia Inquirer over challenger Josh Zeitz.
District 5
The New York Times has endorsed challenger Dennis Shulman.
The Express-Times endorsed U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett (R-Wantage).
The Bergen Record has not yet weighed in, but editorial page editor Al Doblin’s scathing column about Garrett could offer a clue.
District 6
The Home News-Tribune endorsed Republican Robert McLeod, a former Keyport councilman and municipal judge who has raised virtually no money against U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch), a long-term incumbent with more money in the bank than any Congressman in the state.
But two another Gannett papers, The Courier-News and Asbury Park Press endorsed Pallone.
District 7
In this heated race, State Sen. Leonard Lance (R-Flemington) has an endorsement monopoly over Assemblywoman Linda Stender (D-Fanwood).
Lance won the endorsement of The New York Times, Star-Ledger, Courier-News, Home News-Tribune and Express-Times.
Stender hasn’t yet received a newspaper endorsement.

District 10
Even if local newspapers wanted to endorse someone other than U.S. Rep. Donald Payne (D-Newark), it would have to be a write-in candidate. He’s the candidate on the ballot.
District 11
So far, The Courier-News has endorsed U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-Morristown) against long-shot Democratic challenger Tom Wyka.
District 12
U.S. Rep. Rush Holt has been endorsed by the Home News Tribune and Asbury Park Press.
