Lance has $258k on hand
By Matt Friedman, PolitickerNJ.com ReporterState Sen. Leonard Lance (R-Flemington), who’s running against Assemblywoman Linda Stender (D-Fanwood) in the 7th Congressional District, has $258,032 on hand to Stender’s $602,275.
That’s a significant improvement over last quarter, which Lance, bruised from a primary fight, had only $80,000 on hand. He raised $522,941 between July 1st and September 30th, while Stender raised $622,285.
Stender, however, is getting much more help from national Democrats than Lance is from Republicans.
Still complicating matters is Bridgewater Councilman Michael Hsing, a Republican-turned-independent who has amassed a significant war chest. After raising $72,452 last quarter, he has $132,846 on hand.
Hsing has scored 2% to 9% of the vote in both campaigns’ internal polls. But it’s unclear whether Hsing, a conservative of Chinese heritage, will detract from Lance’s vote or Stender’s. Some Republicans suggest that he could draw support from the local Chinese-American community, which tends to vote Democratic.
Anti-war businessman Tom Abrams, who’s also running as an independent, did not file a report with the FEC.
