Dennis Oury stepped down yesterday as general counsel of the Bergen County Democratic Organization, according to party spokesman Bill Maer.
Oury who was indicted Tuesday on an eight-count corruption charge along with BCDO Chairman Joe Ferriero.
Party Vice Chair Kay Nest has appointed Paul Kaufman, a former mayor of Leonia, to take over the position. Kaufman’s name was initially floated as a potential replacement for Ferriero, who has not resigned.

Oury Bills
Wasn't there a News Story on Oury and his bills to Bergenfield - wasn't one of the bills for a conversation with the former mayor of Leonia? One for a chat with the BCDO ED and one for a chat with Kevin Clancy? Could Kaufman be that former Leonia mayor?
Failed Centuria Project in FT Lee
Kaufmann needs to come clean on this ?
Someone should check
Someone should check Kaufman's municipal bills for 2008, especialy in Northvale.
The previous (Republican) attorney's average annual billing (for 16 years) was less than $30,000. In his one (and fortunately, only) year in that town Kaufman billed over $150,000.
In addition he appears as one of the major contributors on many different Democrat PACs as well as the BCDO. One of "Boss" Ferriero's favorite sons.
pitbull
Kaufman's not the Borough Attorney in Northvale for 2008. He's not Borough attorney anywhere. What's your beef?
Is that the same Paul
Is that the same Paul Kaufman of: Kaufman, Bern, Deutsch & Leibman? Doug Bern of Englewood & Former Freeholder and Dennis Deutsch former Mayor of Hillsdale?
2007
There was in 2007 a Paul Kaufman who was Boro Attorney in Northvale - the same one, that I don't know.
Someone should check
In response to BergenBergen's post, Kaufman was the Northvale Borough Attorney in 2007 but held his bills till 2008 to avoid being the issue in the campaign that returned good government to that town.
Kaufman IS a partner in the firm of Kaufman, Bern, Deutsch and Liebman.
As far as "my beef" is concerned it's not the beef but the PORK that should concern everyone.
My suggestion is that the pictures of Ferriero, Oury, Kaufman, et al should be the dictionary definition of "churning" and "pay to play".
The same Nest of corruption
Where were these people when the taxpayer was being ripped off. ? These folk are just as guilty for saying nothing and allowing criminal acts to happen. As for Kay Nest we all remember her threats to Ft Lee Seniors telling them that they would starve if they voted for Republicans. Real nasty people !!!!
Dispatch
The Dems dispatched a crew to dig up dirt on Palin - what can we dispatch to Bergen to find "business as usual" with the new fill in players
To Humbleservant
Great question. I can recall the minority Republicans screaming foul every month. Councilman Lloyd Winans demanded bills from Paul Kauffman every month and was promised bills. Just prior to Election Day, Northvale had not been billed for legal work to hide the large bills and just after Election Day the bills of over $130000 came in. Much of these bills were from legal work created by Mayor Hogan in campaign efforts against the former mayor.
These bills were paid out of the 2008 budget not the 2007 budget Mayor Hogan takes such pride in. $130000 was not budgeted at all. Paul Kauffman was running Northvale for 2007. He attacked residents in the Council chambers and engaged in debate with concerned residents.
