Not long ago, State Sen. Diane Allen thought she would be headed to St. Paul.
According to Allen (R-Burlington), she informed the leadership of the Burlington County Republicans that she would like to attend early this year.
“I was led to believe that would occur. But in the end, the leadership of the Burlington County Republicans I guess went a different way because my name didn’t turn up on the ballot,” she said. “I called Bill Layton a week before (the filing deadline) and asked what I needed to do. He said ‘Don’t worry about it, we’ll take care of it’ And indeed he did.”
Allen, a co-chair of New Jersey Women for McCain, was at first disappointed at not being able to go. But she said things have worked out, and provided analysis for a television show. She said she was happy that Freeholder Director Aubrey Fenton got to attend.
“As it happens, I’m happy to talk up Sarah Palin from here, and I’m happy to do it from wherever I can,” she said.
Layton, however, denied that he gave Allen the impression that she would be a delegate.
“I’m very proud of the delegation we brought this year. We have the highest tanking African-American official in the state of New Jersey with us, and this election for the delegates was different from previous regimes. It’s a new regime in Burlington County, and I selected people who have been working the grassroots for years and are just as deserving as others,” he said. “We’re fortunate in Burlington County to have a number of very qualified people, but we can’t bring everybody. I would hope that Diane Allen would understand that there are people in the grassroots that are just as deserving to come to the convention as she is.”

Kinda Dumb Move
Sorry, but when you not include one of the most influential, popular State Senators in recent Burlco history to the Convention, that really is not too bright.
If it was not for Senator Allen's hard work and crediblity, our District would really be in trouble as well as Burlco!
Allen Who?
You mean the Diane Allen that worked against Bill Layton, Joe Donnely, and the 8th District candidates didn't get invited?
Shocked.
Perhaps she should get Tracy Riley to represent her in appealing Layton's decision.
maybe that's why..
She threw Burlington County Candidates to the wolves in that Philly Enquirer story...
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Layton should not have gone if
as he says
"...I selected people who have been working the grassroots for years and are just as deserving as others,"
I've never seen the Pilsbury Dough Boy performing any grassroot efforts.
Maybe....
Maybe Diane.....if you acted like a Republican.....you'd be treated like a Republican.
Are you Serious?
If it were not for the hard work and respectability of Allen, the 7th District would not have a GOP in that seat!
This is gonna bite back big time.
A week before the deadline?
this is when she finally gets around to calling to see if she will be on the ballot? what arrogance. get off your lazy ass and circualte a petition woman! she has suffered defeat after defeat when going up against the organization. she really isn't very good at this politics thing. eating? yes. politics? no.
Bottom line
Republicans that support Republicans should go to the convention.
Diane actually worked against Republican candidates simply because she had a problem with who was the chairman. Did not matter if she was friends or liked the other candidates, she simply worked against them because they wanted Bill Layton to manage their campaign.
Sounds like a very self centered person to me.
Again, no shock here. Diane that works across the county and works for ALL Republicans should get an invite. A self-centered egotist that only cares about herself and not the party (which is ok if that is who she chooses to be) should not expect to be invited to a Republican event.

Senator Allen
She is probably the hardest working elected official in Burlington County. She is also the most ethical and willing to stand up and fight for what is right.
She is definitely a Republican and has done way more for the residents of this county then Bill Layton ever has or ever will. The only people Bill takes care of are the loan signers.
Senator Allen works hard for all residents of her district and has helped countless number of Republicans throughout the state.
I don't think it was Diane who made donations to Democrats in 2006, that was Bill Layton who did that.
Layton should have stayed in NJ and allowed Senator Allen to attend, after all she has done for the party, it was the least he could have done.
new regime?
Does Layton believe his own words?
Last time I check Paulsen still tells you what to do every tueday night and all you do is take notes and say "yes glen" while you drink beer and eat 3 hoagies.
Layton is a joke, a really fat joke.
It is a new Regime
While Glenn may still be barking orders, they now order their hoagies from a different deli. This Deli has offered to kick back 35% of their profits to the GOP in exchange for business on Layton's $3,000 a week hoagie addiction.
Never Underestimate
the GOP's ability to lose elections because of in-fighting. There was a time when elected officials had county committee respect. But this was all lost under the wonderful campaign reform act of 1992 which recreated a new party boss organization (but that's another great bedtime story of those who drink the power-flavored kool-aid).
Allen has given the GOP a good run while others fell by the wayside. She's honest and committed. And she's the reason why the GOP is hanging on in Burlington.
She also had to stand for fellow GOPers poisoning her bids for higher office because a certain Camden County Dem boss didn't want her rising!
Bottom line is that the GOP has so little! Yet the county organizational leaders are more about themselves than the general good of the committee.
PARTY CHANGE ????
Since she was snubbed by not being put on this ballot, I wonder if she will be in the Burlco GOP column in the next senatorial election? Hmmmm.....could we see a Fran Bodine move in the future? Get snubbed by the GOP....become a Democrat. If so, I hope that the Burlco Dems learned something from the Bodine mistake.
No point in changing parties...
At this point in her career, would it make sense to change parties? If she switched, she'd still win the Senate seat given the 7th is already pretty strong for D's, but then she would probably never have a shot at moving above the state senate office. (she may not now either)
If Myers loses, maybe Allen could challenge Adler in two years. There's also talk of her possibly being a Lt. Gov candidate with Christie if it's not Beck. That might be easier, given she'd probably lose in a Republican primary. She's definately the most liberal Republican in New Jersey.
