State Sen. Jennifer Beck (R-Red Bank) never predicted that Sarah Palin would be John McCain’s Vice-Presidential pick, but she was the only candidate she talked about.
I know this sounds crazy, but the only name I have mentioned to anybody is Gov. Palin. I actually talked about it at the women’s political caucus months ago. I brought up her name as a young woman that’s a Republican leader,” said Beck, who thinks that Palin provides a fresh face that will “make people take a second look at the Republican Party.”
Beck echoed the sentiments of other Republican leaders, saying that Palin would appeal to Hillary Clinton voters still mistrustful of Barack Obama.
“She’s a woman of substance. She has an exceptional record as a fiscal conservative. She’s enacted a lot of ethics reforms. I think she is exactly what John McCain needed on his ticket to bring some of the Hillary supporters to the Republican side of the isle,” said said. “I think there are going to be a lot of women who are not particularly partisan that are interested in seeing a fresh face like Gov. Palin on the ticket.”

How old was John McCain's father when he died?
Now that Elle Woods, I mean Sarah Palin is about to be a heartbeat from the presidency, how many heartbeats away is that? So, just how old was John McCain's father when he died? The answer is that he was born in 1911 and died of a Heart Attack in 1981. If my math skills serve me properly, that would make him 70. John McCain III currently is 71 years old. If elected to the office of President of the United States for two full terms, McCain would be 80 years old at the end his service. No president has ever held office at that age. Maybe his father's death was an anomaly in the family. Going back to Google to check his paternal grandfather's age at death. Again, within a few minutes I had the information. His name, of course, was John Sidney McCain, Sr. He was the first McCain to attend the Naval Academy and also had a prestigious military career. But, how long did he live? John Sidney McCain was born in 1884. He died in 1945. That is 61 years old. The country had better hope that he takes after his mother's side of the family. Second Look?
If Palin makes people take a second look at the GOP that would be a good thing. On first look they have a candidate for president who seems tough and independent. On second look he's lost his marbles, picking someone who may well be competent at her own level but who has not done anything to merit being a heartbeat away.
Ms. beck wants some credit for seeing into the future? Well, her most relevant line is "I know this sounds crazy." Yup, it sure does.
Too big a gamble?
This pick speaks volumes about McCain’s character. It is now crystal clear that he’s not a maverick he’s a gambler. It is well known that McCain is a frequent patron at the high stakes Las Vegas gaming tables, but what wasn’t fully understood was the degree to which his gambling urge leaked into his public life. So it fits that he went with his gut and decided to double down hoping to hit with both a women and social conservatives. What’s frightening is that he would make such a colossal gamble with the most important decision he’s had to face as a possible President. It is the same impulsiveness that has worried those close to him for years. Now that he has clearly placed his chips in the Bill Bennett wing of the party. Can the rest of us afford to play roulette with the country’s wellbeing?
Second Look...
like rubbernecking at a car wreck.
Thank you, John McCain.
Palin had a child at 44!!!
I question Gov. Palin's judgment. I am talking about her decision to have a baby at the age of 44. It is well known that women having children at her age run the risk of causing Down Syndrome. According to publications, "Maternal age influences the chances of conceiving a baby with Down syndrome. At maternal age 20 to 24, the probability is one in 1562; at age 35 to 39 the probability is one in 214, and above age 45 the probability is one in 19."
Why would she take such risks for her child even after having had one son and three lovely girls already? Will she take such risks with our own lives if she ends up in the Oval Office?
I question McCain's judgment in gambling our lives by betting on someone who is so careless and irresponsible.
CountAl repeats talking points like a parrot
"Now that Elle Woods, I mean Sarah Palin..."
Based on his statements, I can tell CountAl has no respect for women and probably despises women in executive roles. Either hes bitterly single, divorced ($100 says she left him), or has a wife I feel very sorry for...
Sarah Palin has been a governor for two years. Barack Obama was in the Senate for two years before he began his campaign. He's never run a McDonalds let alone a state or a country. Thats a gamble Al...
Dangerous Fundamentalist
Palin is against the use of birth control pills and condoms even among married couples.
Supported the bridge-to-nowhere before she opposed it.
Wants Creationism taught in science classes.
Doesn't accept global warming and pushing to take the polar bear off the endangered species list.
Her husband works for the oil industry (BP), gee, I wonder what her position would be on energy.
Supports opening up ANWAR to the likes of Exxon, Shell, and BP. What's the problem with that?
1) US has only 2% of the world oil supplies, and only part of that in ANWAR, but consumes 25% of the world's energy.
2) Results of any drilling would not reach the consumers for another 10-15yrs. With increasing consumption, ANWAR's contribution would be miniscule to non-existent.
So, basically her position to open up ANWAR is an insincere and superficial attempt at caring for our energy needs, but everything to do increasing profits for oil companies to which she is tied.
Reports suggest not her baby.
There are a number of reports circulating now that her four month old baby is really not her's but her daughter's. There are reports that her daughter was out of school for months because she had "mono". Pictures posted on several websites when she was supposedly 5 and 6 months pregnant look extremely suspect.
JimmyTsunami is CountAl on crack
I think the governor of Alaska is more qualified to take a position on ANWR than you Jimmy. You repeat Nancy Pelosi's spoon fed talking points, she actually lives in Alaska.
I also heard reports Sarah Palin is controlled by aliens like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and pictures on several websites look extremely suspect.
Too bad Americans want
Too bad Americans want substance this year and won't fall for the typical "shoot the messenger and not address the message" tired old Republican tactics.
Case in point:
If we are still arguing about stupid CREATIONISM in our science classes, no wonder jobs are shipping out overseas because their education system is more competitive for the needs of businesses. We can't get kids interested in science and be ready for a competitive global economy because people like Sarah Palin are distracting and confusing the importance of such education.
She is simply dangerous now for her lack of international experience, she just got her passport in 2007. How can you trust her to deal with issues of terrorism, Russia, China, Israel, Africa, the EU, NATO and so on. She is dangerous for our energy policy because of her links to the oil industry through her husband, (like Bush-Cheney), and she is dangerous for our long-term competitiveness in the international stage technologically and economically.
