State Sen. Bill Baroni said that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is an “extraordinary choice” who will put New Jersey in play.

News reports this morning say McCain has tapped Palin, 44, as his running mate.

“Now with an 8 week campaign, we’ve got a great ticket that for New Jersey that obviously appeals to the blue collar voters,” said Baroni, the chairman of McCain’s New Jersey campaign. “Now we’re adding a conservative choice in Sarah Palin who appeals to New Jersey’s conservative and independent voters, men and women.”

And while Palin couldn’t come from a state more different than New Jersey, Baroni said that her ethics-based gubernatorial campaign and spats with Rep. Don Young (R-Ala.) will resonate with Garden State voters.

“Certainly Sarah Palin appeals to a broad spectrum of New Jjersey voters, but as a young mom she has a very special appeal to New Jersey’s vast independent voting block,” he said. “Additionally, maybe even more than any state but Alaska, New Jersey, which has wallowed in a culture of corruption, will see Sarah Palin as a fellow traveler on the road to reform.”

Palin is, however, has been accused by the state’s former Commissioner of Public Safety of leaning on him to fire a state trooper who was going through a bitter divorce with her sister.

“There’s no evidence of it. It will be completely vetted of the next 48 hours,” said Baroni.

Baroni stressed that he had not yet heard official word about Palin from the campaign.

nj is big on creationism

yeah. that should put mccain over the top. seriously, her experience includes being mayor of a town of 7000? nj malls hold more than that. ask bret schundler how anti-choice candidates do in nj. this is pandering at its best (worst?). nj voters are smarter than that.

Excellent candidate

She's a fantastic pick who will unite Republicans. It was a brilliant move handled spectacularly. By this evening no one will even remember Barack Obama's speech.

Need her in Bergen

Bergen I've noticed has become more with Women in Politics as well the Financial, Household & Voting details. Bergen might be a Hockey & Soccer Mom County. We need to get BCRO Chairman Yudin to get Palin over here to do a diner tour and then into a venue like the Arena or Giant Stadium to allow the masses to come see her.

Love the idea!

Southern Bergen could very well decide this election too. I agree with Baroni that Palin puts this increasingly conservative and independent state in play. Same thing in Michigan. The McCain campaign could not have done better!

Explain to me please..

...how Sen. McCain justifies choosing this individual as the person who could be aa heartbeat away from the presidency, when he and his minions have spent the entire campaign bashing Barack Obama's level of experience?

I am not aware that she has demonstrated any national political abilities.

Expalin to me

How you attack McCain as being a same ole DC politican because of his 25 years as Senator and then you pick Biden who has been there for 32 years? What change is that?

puts NJ in play?

the Governor of Alaska is going to put NJ in play?

I really doubt it.

Palin is a firecracker!

I was worried that McCain would pick Romney, the Gov is a great choice and will be a real asset on the ticket. Just look at all of the news services today - before the announcement, it was all Obama, after - all McCain. This will take a couple of points off of the Obama post-convention pop.

I'm from LI and trying to

I'm from LI and trying to figure that comment as well put NJ into play? Seriously i got friends in edison and some other areas of jersey and im sure they have the same thoughts about palin as do I. My wife has been trying to get me to look at some alaska cruises for vacation and after all the speeches for the elections i'm taking her down to the caribbean instead. X-mas is around the corner i'll be in jersey at my friends party i can't wait to get their thoughts on what's happened this month.

Putting Jersey in the Play

We can't know quite for sure what kind of political games they are playing. Anyway, the all look like clowns that try to reach something but are not quite sure what. This is getting rather frustrating especially for people that are not prepare to face the results of what is really going on. Please take some time and consider our pigeon repellent post on how to accept something new.

Best Regards
