A Rasmussen poll shows Sen. Frank Lautenberg hitting the 50% mark that pundits say is so crucial for any reelection effort.
The survey puts Lautenberg at 51% to Zimmer’s 33%. That’s up two points for Lautenberg last month, when Rasmussen put him at 49% to Zimmer’s 36%. Lautenberg is supported by 78% of the state’s Democrats, while Zimmer is backed by 72% of Republicans. Lautenberg has a commanding lead with the state’s unaffiliated voters, besting Zimmer 45% to 28%.
Meanwhile, Barack Obama continues to have a high single-digit lead over John McCain.
Obama has the support of 48% of New Jerseyans, while McCain can count on 40%.
The poll, conducted on Monday, surveyed 500 likely voters and has a margin of error of +/- 4.5%.

Another limited poll.
500 voters are not too many. I am surprised that Sen. Lautenberg actually got more support considering his oil companies holdings and keeping it secret, while denying NJ offshore drilling so all NJ taxpayers could benefit. I am also surprised that Sen. Obama has such a high lead now considering his continuous flip flopping on major issues facing our economy. I guess NJ voters are a bit behind the rest of America in this regard.
Who knew
that Zimmer was still running? The most about Zimmer in the press was the recall on hip replacements.
Zimmer who ?
with less than 90 days to go Zimmer still has no ground campaign in Bergen County. Even Tom Kean Jr campaign was active in Bergen. After labor day this race will be over. What a waste of Republican Primary resources.
