M*A*S*H star records retaliatory robocall

Voters of the 3rd and 7th Congressional Districts: meet Captain B.J. Hunnicutt.

Blue Jersey reports that a several liberal bloggers have commissioned a retaliatory robocall aimed at two congressional districts in New Jersey that were targeted with calls by Freedom’s Watch, a conservative advocacy group.

The call by Freedom’s Watch blames Democratic congressional candidates John Adler and Linda Stender, both state legislators, for doing nothing to repeal the state’s 14 cent gas tax.

New Jersey has the third lowest gas tax in the country.

The blogger-commissioned call stars actor Mike Farrell, who played the character B.J. Hunnicutt in M*A*S*H.

“You may have recently received a call from a group called Freedom Watch about gas prices. They’re fronting for Karl Rove and billionaires who want to blame the high cost of gas on Linda Stender and New Jersey’s 14 cent gas tax,” said Farrell in the call. “Freedom Watch is actually a group of Bush supporters desperate to keep your eye off the Iraq War and saber rattling aimed at Iran that national security experts say has added more than $2 to the price at the pump. Bombing oil fields drives gas prices up – that’s just reality.”

M.A.S.H. Potato Head

No doubt Mike Farrell knows all too well the horrors of war and the consequenses of "saber rattling" because he played an Army doctor in the Korean War on TV. With all do respect for the has been actor, when was the last time the US bombed oil fields in either Iraq or Iran intentially or otherwise? Even Linda Stender should be smart enough to know what a complete misstatement that is. Farrell should stick to canned laughtracks and freeing Mumia. If anyone is looking for a distraction from Iraq and gas prices it is Stender. Paying attention to the continued successes in Iraq over the past year shows just how wrong she is on the issue. Paying attention to to current fuel price issues shows she has absolutely no solution to offer other than new taxes on both fuel producers AND consumers and more strangling government interference in the free market.

What a Joke

both parties in NJ are becoming. I mean why the hell would Myers and Lance let these jackasses into their districts? Meanwhile Adler and Stender break out "Bush Lied, Kids Died" at every chance

I really think the state needs an independent ticket. Maybe a fusion ticket with Rich Bagger and Lou Manzo.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

resurrectingreagan -- how funny that you would say that about Mike Farrell when Ronald Reagan was well known for telling war stories out of his movie career.

Robo Call's Don't work

Wow, the press likes to report on these calls but there is never any questioning as to the effectiveness of robo calls.

Green and Gerber (of Yale and Brookings) have done some rigorous statistical studies and have found that there is NO evidence of robo calls ever having worked.

As I testified in the U.S. Senate in February, robo calls are now the spam of this cycle.

These calls are an epidemic and are invading the privacy of All American Voters.

Our members are taking a stand and saying enough is enough at the National Political Do Not Contact Registry at StopPoliticalCalls.org.

Here is a quote from a member this morning:

"I find it very frustrating... I tend to get calls at the WORST time. I have a one year old daughter, and it NEVER fails that the phone will ring when I put her down for a nap or for bed. Also my vote is PRIVATE... so who do you think you are calling with a survey to find out who I am voting for!!! Stop calling me."
