5th District fundraising totals

Fifth District Democratic Challenger Dennis Shulman and incumbent Rep. E. Scott Garrett raised close to the same amount of money last fundraising quarter, though Garrett retains a significant cash advantage.

Shulman raised $270,000 last quarter, according to his campaign, bringing his total raised so far to about $585,000, with $258,000 cash on hand after a primary against attorney Camille Abate.

“We’re excited that grassroots energy for Dennis’s campaign is translating into the resources that we need to get the message out in November,” said Shulman Campaign Manager Jeff Hauser.

So far, Shulman has raised $11,000 more than previous Democratic challenger Paul Aronsohn raised in the entire 2006 election cycle.

Garrett raised $294,000 last quarter, bringing his total so far just short of the million dollar mark, at $983,000, according to Cammpaign Manager Amanda Gasperino.

Having been spared a primary, Garrett has two-and-a-half times the amount of cash-on-hand as Shulman, with about $649,000 in the bank.

That's about $259K more in the bank than what's his name

Adler's opponent. I can't remember, since he can't afford any advertising.

If I was Shulman I'd be

If I was Shulman I'd be careful about every single thing I do as Scott has enough money to run ads all across the district.

Of course - how many people are really going to donate to a blind rabbi with no chance of winning.

Garrett is doing well in

Garrett is doing well in fundraising and I think it will only get better as the campaign progresses.

That's what happens when you stand up and represent your constituents right!

WoW 900k isn't anything to

WoW 900k isn't anything to discount - I wonder what the DCCC is thinking now. That 900k could be spent on a lot of ads to combat the senseless stuff that the DCCC and Shulman have been saying.

Good luck Scott we need more like you in Congress!

@ david

Exactly right - Garrett is one of the few congressmen who spend their time focused on their job and not the perks of being a national leader. Plus he's a down to earth guy.

We need Garrett...

We need Scott Garrett representing the 5th district like we need a third Bush term. Garrett is not just a conservative; he represents the most radical conservative positions of any politician in the modern era. Voting against reauthorizing the Civil Rights Act, voting against aid to Katrina Victims, voting against including sexual orientation in hate crimes -- these are just some of the jaw-dropping, irresponsible positions of Garrett.

Shulman is presenting a real, credible challenge, and he has a much better platform, particularly on the war, than Garrett. His fundraising numbers are healthy enough to make a serious challenge, and I hope the DCCC gets behind him with further cash.

Garrett

Congressman Scott Garrett is a great, strong, wise leader who ably represents the district he lives in. Dennis Shulman is a nice guy but he should stick with psychology. The people of the fifth congressional district will stick with the peoples representative Scott Garrett in November.

There is a reason

Congressman Garrett out fundraised Dennis Shulman: he has more support than the Blind Rabbi from Demarest. The people who live in the fifth congressional district like Scott Garrett, they know and trust Scott Garrett, and arent going to turn him over simply because the national republican climate is unfavorable. National democrats are dreaming if they think that they will capture the 5th.

The DCCC isn't even

The DCCC isn't even considering running ad's here. On the list of districts they bought ad's for on a "future's price" a few days ago NJ-5 was not listed. If Shulman thinks he has a chance, that's nice but the DCCC and a majority of the district doesn't

@david the DCCC has Shulman

@david

the DCCC has Shulman as an emerging race and has released the 4th of july oil ads naming Garrett as one of the 13-15 congressmen helping Bush keep oil high

Thank you very much
