Former Republican U.S. Senate candidate Murray Sabrin said today that he won’t run for Governor next year.
Towards the end of his Senate campaign, Sabrin said that, if he didn’t win, he would consider running for Governor to keep U.S. Attorney Chris Christie, the establishment Republicans’ favorite prospective nominee, from getting the nomination.
Reached on vacation in Alaska today, Sabrin said that he would devote his energy towards advancing his philosophy of limited government and laissez faire economic policy.
“It’s something that people have asked me about previously, and I’ve just got to concentrate on my career, writing and being an activist. Doing things that will move this agenda forward of freedom and limited government,” he said.
Sabrin, who’s run for senate twice and once for governor, argued that Norman Thomas, who ran for president as a Socialist six times between 1926 and 1948, was more successful in getting his platform implemented than most of those who actually won the presidency. Sabrin hopes he can have a similar effect on state policies (obviously from a different ideological perspective).
“It’s kind of interesting is that people who have had the most success are sometimes those who didn’t win,” said Sabrin.
