Corzine asks Davy to review Abbott contracts
By Matt Friedman, PolitickerNJ.com ReporterAmid growing fury over a lucrative contract awarded to outgoing Keansburg Superintendent Barbara Trzeszkowski, Gov. Jon Corzine said today that he’s asking state Education Commissioner Lucille Davy to review all 31 Abbott district superintendent contracts.
“We have asked each of the Abbott district superintendents to provide their contracts to be reviewed,” said Corzine in a press release. “We will have to work our way through this in the context of how many people we have and the priorities we make. We will try to look to the Executive County Superintendents for every contract.”
After working nearly 40 years in the district, Trzeszkowki was given a $740,000 severance in on top of her $120,000 annual pension.
The state got an injunction last week to keep the school board from making payments to Trzeszkowski.
The Governor’s press release noted that the state began reviewing superintendent contracts in April, and that they had rejected Plainfield’s new contact because it provided some “questionable provisions” that included travel, meal and lodging reimbursements.
