Pennacchio accuses Sabrin of bigotry, takes a swipe at Zimmer

United States Senate candidate Joe Pennacchio hit rival Republican Murray Sabrin for “religious bigotry” today.

At issue is a press release Sabrin put out yesterday, the Catholic holy day of Ascension Sunday. In the release, Sabrin bolstered his pro-life credentials by reflecting “on the millions of unborn children whose lives are destroyed each year through abortions.”

Sabrin went on to criticize his two Republican rivals: Dick Zimmer for being pro-choice, and Joe Pennacchio for having written in favor of distributing the abortion drug RU-486 in his 1991 work A Nationalist Agenda -- which Sabrin referred to as a “fascist manifesto.”

“I, as a Catholic, take offense to Murray Sabrin using my religion to make a political point. He used the Ascension to make a point which was shameful and subtly bigoted. It shows his total lack of respect and tolerance for my Catholic faith,” Pennacchio said. Even for Murray this crosses the line.”

Pennacchio also said that Sabrin’s repeated use of the word “fascist” to describe him was a subtle dig at his Italian heritage.

Pennacchio said that he pledged to run a clean campaign, but also attacked Zimmer for his own past campaign tactics, including his congressional race in 2000.

“His bigotry is no better than the bigotry of the ‘angry black man’ phone calls used in a past Zimmer campaign and outlined in the book ‘How to Rig an Election’,” said Pennacchio. “It's certainly no better than when Zimmer attempted to tie conservative Republican Mike Pappas to the KKK through his membership in an Evangelical Church.”

The Zimmer campaign could not immediately be reached for comment.

“New Jersey’s unborn children need a leader, not an author,” said Sabrin spokesman George Ajjan.

I hope theres cheese in Morris County

Because theres lots of whine to go around in the Jersey Joe camp!

Jersey Joe is L-O-C-O (that's "crazy" for all you May 5th folks)

Did anyone else read this rant of a press release: http://www.politickernj.com/skush/19331/pennacchio-opponents-politics-no...

This guy is certifiable!

I think he has been breathing in all that gas at his dentist offices...

Setting things straight

Sabrin doesn't think Pennacchio is a fascist because he's Italian. Sabrin thinks Pennacchio is a fascist because he has written fascist things:

fascist Definition: authoritarian

au·thor·i·tar·i·an: 1. Characterized by or favoring absolute obedience to authority, as against individual freedom

Fascist

Fascist or not I don't know. What I do know is that, as a Catholic, I have to agree using the Ascension for political purposes is a little over the top.

As to Jersey Joe's writings I think his voting record shows where he stands on the issues today, and today is what I, as a voter, care about.

I would think even Murray doesn't want anyone paying attention to what was written years ago or he'd be screaming for everyone to read his manifesto, Tax Free 2000: The Rebirth of American Liberty.

Frankly, I think every Republican should examine the voting records of all the candidates then decide who they are voting for. Oh, that's right, Murray doesn't have a record! So, that would make it a race between Pennacchio and Zimmer. Time to go look at those voting records.

VOTING RECORD

Ok, so Mr. Urbangop, you think that only politicians should be elected to office? Hmm, I guess that is why incumbents have such an advantage. We need NEW blood in our government!

How bout this, we get rid of all the POLITICIANS, and start electing, once again, STATESMEN! People that CARE about their constituents, NOT their own pockets!

Stop with this baloney about rerun politicians, too, like Zimmer, and Lautenberg, they should NOT be returned to ANY elected position.

Here's MY STATEMENT! RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE! Vote Column C (Ocean County)!

We do not need politicians in the US Senate!

I agree that voting for professional politicians or lobbyists is pointless. You do not change anything by voting in more of the same. Rather, you vote in people who are independent and who will take your interests seriously. If you want to have professional politicians representing you in Washington, DC you have your bowl full of the GOP stew (State Senator, former politician turned lobbyist) or you vote for a change (Professor of economy and finances Sabrin). I mean how stupid do you have to be to vote for the same stew?

Professional Politicians

Murry Sabrin is a professional politician, having now run for statewide office three times and having run the statewide campaign for a presidential candidate once. What separates Murray from Jersey Joe or Zimmer is that Murray Sabrin is a very unsuccessful professional politician, having never won elected office.

Rage against the machine

REFORMcandidate you have outted me. I have actually supported candidates who were not politicians in the past. This will not be one of those times. Unfortunately Mr. Sabrin has done nothing but attack in this race. Pennacchio has been talking about alternative energy. Zimmer has talked about how he, when in office, fought hard for the taxpayers. Both have voting records to prove their fiscal conservative credentials. Murray has nothing but he is ALWAYS attacking rather than talking about issues. I suspect, and can only suspect because I do not get to speak with any of the candidates, the reason Mr. Sabrin continues to do nothing more than attack is he wants to be sure no one pays any attention to the things he wrote and said in the past. Don't you find it odd that Sabrin attacks Pennacchio's writings yet says nothing of his own manifesto and the fact that he thought Gilligan's Island would be a great place to live? I am sure some of Murray's thoughts have changed since his 1997 gubernatorial run, as Pennacchio's thoughts have evolved since he put pen to paper almost 20 years ago. I'd be willing to bet even Zimmer has had some of his thoughts evolve over time. This is why we have to look at voting records, to see where the candidates stand on the issues today. Seriously, how do we know how Sabrin feels about government hand outs? Do we take him at his word? Or do we look at the fact that he allowed the taxpayers to fund his race for governor? We don't know how he feels about the issue today but he wants us to take him at his word while he calls the other candidates names. I am sorry but in this case I think the best bet is to look at the voing records of all the candidates because even with Sabrin, the things that have been said and written years ago do change over time. Unfortunately, Sabrin has no record to look at and there is no way based on his performance as an attack dog in this race I can take him at his word. But I will say this to you Mr. REFORMcandidate. While I still have to examine the records of the candidates for the primary, if by some miracle your guy Sabrin wins the GOP nomination I will support him in the fall. I would only hope to learn that you will support whoever our Party's nominee happens to be as well.

Running for the office does not make you a politician.

Dear Eric, You can run for a political offices (offices) as many times as you like. That does not make you a politician. That makes you a wanna be politician. You have to be elected and serve in the office to become a politician. Professional politicians are those elected official who keep on holding elected offices in order to earn their wages and living from. In New Jersey, we have a class of professional politicians who will do anything to hold their offices in order to make money and earn their pensions from. The best examples of this are our dear dual office holders, who hold dual offices despite the ban to hold dual offices. To make the matter even more ridiculous, they themselves voted for the ban but excluded themselves from it until stupid voters and back to the USSR Cahirmen will reelect them. That's the hight of political professionalism. The other example is when a politician like Codey stays in the office for decades and still calls himself a man of the people. Frank Lautenberg falls in the same cataegory here.

"Professional politicians are those elected official who keep on holding elected offices in order to earn their wages and living from."

Murray Sabrin may not technically qualify as a professional politician since he has lost every election that he has competed in, but he is not that different from one given the fact that he uses his state funded job to pay the bills in between his unsuccessful bids for elected office.

Speaking of education policy,

What section of the constitution authorizes the federal government to "give parents federal tax credits to give them the freedom to enroll their children in a successful school or to home school?"

FYI --- That quote is from Sabrin's website.

Seems that Murray Sabrin is not as a principled as he claims to be. Or he left his pocket constitution at home the day he wrote his education policy.

It's time to give Sabrin a Look! Spot On Bubs!

by Joseph Racioppi May 01, 2008 5:32AM NJ Star Ledger NJ.com Murray Sabrin is running for US Senate and compared to the other candidates, he deserves a shot at winning the Republican nomination and beating Frank Lautenberg or whoever the Dems nominate. Looking at the issues objectively, I think the case for Sabrin is strong. What American is not in favor of fiscal responsibility? Securing our borders? On these two issues alone Sabrin has the other candidates beat by a long shot. As Professor of finance at Ramapo College, Sabrin has the background and desire to bring fiscal responsibility to Washington. Democrats will attack Sabrin for his "manifesto" and try to label him an "extremist", but are Democrats in any position to debate Sabrin on fiscal responsibility, or illegal immigration? Senators Menendez and Lautenberg both supported the failed amnesty bill last year, and we all know what a fiscal mess New Jersey is in. Is there really a downside to electing someone who favors fiscal sanity? We have a failure of leadership in Washington. Every election cycle we hear the same tired phrases, promises of change, etc...We've had a failure of leadership on Iraq, Immigration, Social Security, Medicare and of course runaway spending with a national debt of approximately $9 trillion. We so obviously need fiscal responsibility, but no one wants to address the "heart of the matter" which is the fact that our entire financial system needs an overhaul. Now more than ever the actions of the Federal Reserve Bank are relevant and worthy of questioning. Most people know little about this cloistered institution. They think the Fed is a gov't bank, etc... Since the subprime mortgage crisis hit, the Fed has loaned hundreds of billions of dollars to cash strapped banks with the promise of billions more. The Fed made news in March when it assisted in the $30 billion bailout and subsequent purchase of investment bank Bear Stearns by JP Morgan Chase& Co. The investment house was purchased by JP Morgan Chase but their exposure is only one billion. Taxpayers are at risk for $29 billion. Why the Fed chose to bail out Bear Stearns and why JP Morgan got first dibs on its purchase is unclear. What's also unclear is whether the Fed had legal authority for the bailout. Sabrin has been speaking and writing about the Fed for over thirty years. Here is a letter he wrote that was published in the NY Times back in 1976. All other issues are subservient to the money issue. "Follow the money" the saying goes. Even if it's fiat money! No other candidate is willing to take on the financial power called the Fed. At the very least, we need open, intelligent dialogue on this topic. You will not get it with the other candidates. Imagine how hopeful the future can be if for once the government was changed from party hacks to the people's actual representatives! www.murraysabrin.com

Church and State

I'm Catholic and saw nothing wrong with the press release... ...when did politics have to start checking the calendar to avoid holy days of obligation? This shouldn't even be an issue Joe! News comes out when it comes out. Live with it. If we want to get on the religion subject...For a jewish politican to visit Catholic churches on a holy day to discuss abortion is a major step in the right direction. The Catholic faith is against abortion -- it's a sin that causes excommunication from the church. It's a very huge issue. Real republicans are against it as well.

Secondly, Murray has talked and talked about the issues to whoever will listen but the only thing that seems to make it into here is crap like this. It's what the masses love, not the real issues. You either have to meet the candidates personally to hear what they stand for or do your own research - go to their websites.

Murray

Makes me sick. His army of brainwashed posters on this cite make me sick. I would literally vote for anyone or anything over this horrific monster of person. God I will be so happy when I never have to read about him again. What an a**

figures

Ok SJBlue...who's brainwashed? How is Murray a "monster"? Where's your backing to your thoughts? Most of us, supporters and non supporters alike, actually have intelligent arguments here - well, they lack here and there a bit, but still we elaborate on specifics. Care to share?

What's the P-O-I-N-T?

Outside of his screwy little C-I-R-C-L-E, nobody knows who Murray Sabrin is. So what exactly does Joe Pennacchio think he stands to gain by attacking the only candidate in the race that is more irrelevant than he is???

If you want a reason why Dick Zimmer was the top dog in the race as soon as he entered it, look no further than this couple of coconuts.

Gee, I can't imagine why the party chose Kean to run for US Senate in '06 instead of this schifosa.

Or, as Joe's supporters would like you to believe, "gracefully stepped aside and let Kean run."

Yeah right. Give me a B-R-E-A-K.

Murray

FOr the record my arguments are always well thought and I have consistantly championed high-minded eebate on this cite. Many of those that I have had disagreements would atest to it. Murray on the other hand deserves no such respect. He is a bizarre and bigoted individual that has used fear as a political tool. His political instincts are terrible and his ideas comical. Sensationalizing the abortion issue to bait Catholics is wrong not only ethically, but because it makes religion an issue in a political campaign. His bigoted stance on illegal immigration is superficial and innacurate. His tone and temperment are reprehensible. I could list all of the nonsense that Murray's campaign has issued but its certainly not worth keeping a tally. As Dino pointed out HE IS SO FAR DOWN AT THE BOTTOM HE CAN BAIRLY SEE DAYLIGHT. This cite's devotion to him to purely economic. People like reading about the rediculous Murray so Wally gets more traffic and his advertisers are happy. More people check the cite and post because Murray has his devotees (also good for Wally's pockets) waiting to post on any politicker post.  This is obvious because Murray quotes the unscientific polls that his army overloads as evidence of his frontrunner status-that makes him a joke. This is no means meant as a shot at Wally-I'd do it too if I ran this cite, but its fairy obvious that anyone with real credibility understands that Murray is a NJ political footnote
