The Star-Ledger reports that Corzine Deputy Chief of Staff Javier Inclan resigned today.

"The governor accepted Javier Inclan's resignation. He understands why Javier reached the conclusion that he did that it was necessary to resign," Corzine Communications Director Deborah Howlett told the paper.

Inclan had testified as a prosecution witness at the corruption trial of Guttenberg Mayor David Delle Donna, admitting to delivering two envelopes he believed were stuffed with cash to the mayor.

Incaln's last day is May 15.

Should have been fired

Would it be too much to ask for someone to get fired just once for doing something criminal?

Javier should have been fired as soon as the administration learned of his deeds in Hudson county.

Small wonder Corzine isn't respected by anyone in Trenton.

He was

You think he did that on his own??? No one ever "resigns."

....from day one. His writings on the Guttenberg scandal in which Inclan plays a key role are worthy of being looked up and read by anyone who cares about cleaning up NJ politics.

When reading of the recent support for Inclan from the governor I was pretty incensed.

What follows is cross posted from what I wrote at Blue Jersey at 12:30 this afternoon....

Emphasis added....

>>>"The governor commends Javier for his effort and he believes it takes courage to testify in this trial," said Lilo Stainton, a spokeswoman for the governor. "Javier was testifying in the case for the prosecution against someone who was clearly a convicted felon."

Javier Inclan, a former Guttenberg councilman, testified that while treasurer of the Guttenberg Democratic Organization he passed two envelopes to Delle Donna from bar owner Luisa Medrano that he believed were stuffed with cash. Inclan could not be reached for comment yesterday.<<<

What the hell is wrong with our governor???

Has he lost his mind???

Or is it just me? Am I making too much of this?

Has New Jersey politics sunk to such a low level that no one should be shocked and disgusted about this?

Inclan is a public official of OUR PARTY...with a fiduciary responsibility, i.e., TREASURER of the local party's funds....who somehow thinks it's appropriate to pass envelopes that he confesses to "believing were stuffed with cash" form a bar owner to a another public official.

And Corzine stupidly tries to get away with spinning this as a good thing because "Javier was testifying in the case for the prosecution against someone who was clearly a convicted felon"???!!!???

Duuhhhhh???!!!???

Something truly dirty/fishy is going on here.

Is it legal to be a bagman in an illegal transaction?

What kind of deals have been made here? By whom? Why isn't Inclan being investigated by a grand jury?

Does anyone out there really think that this is the ONLY dirty dealing that Mayor Delle Donna has been involved with???

If Chris Christie really gave a shit about uncovering and prosecuting coruption he would be pulling on this loose thread real hard....but he's not. What does that tell us?

Corzine is either suffering from some kind of cognitive deficiency or he's being blackmailed or pressured or covering up something bigger.

It may be recall time.

I want a Democrat to be Governor of NJ; but this guy has zero credibility at this point.

Again, maybe it's just me?

Can anyone out there tell me why this isn't a big deal?

OK, so now Inclan has resigned, and that's great; but why isn't he being prosecuted? How is what he did legal? Why does this bum deserve to collect his pension?

This resignation is good, but it's far from good enough.

Come on Chris Christie, do your job. Why don't you really get to the bottom of ALL the corruption.....in BOTH parties!!!

If we have to build a new federal prison to hold another couple of thousand inmates from NJ, that's fine.

Law enforcement knows exactly how to do this. You start at the bottom and work your way up.....squeezing information in exchange for plea bargains as you go.

Sadly, it seems that Christie himself is part of a corrupt criminal administration, the Bush/Cheney administration. So I suppose he'll never go after any of the truly/deeply entrenched systemic corruption that actually transcends all party lines.

Meanwhile, we're about to close down our state parks, for the want of a few million dollars, while people like Inclan get fat pensions.

I bet NJ is shelling out 20 million bucks a year, easy, in pensions to criminals who don't desrve a dime.

Inclan is just a tiny pimple on a terminal cancer...we need some radical reforms in NJ and we need them yesterday...the state is broke.

There's not much more left to steal. The thieves will continue to take and take and take until they're stopped or they "kill the goose", whichever comes first.

Just like a cancer.

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I was way ahead of everybody on this one.

A good start

It's good that Javier Inclan resigned. Corzine should have fired his ass but at least he's out of there. That's a good start.

Now he should be investigated and hopefully indicted for what was going on in Guttenberg. Corruption needs to be prosecuted wherever it exists. We've had more than enough.

I betcha

Corzine wishes that he hadn't helped Jeanine Larue find another gig...Who recommended this guy? Now its time for an outsider, enough is enough!

When will Corzine learn?

When will Jon Corzine learn that listening to backroom party bosses like Bergen's Joseph Ferriero and others will only serve to ruin his reputation and compromise any integrity he may have left?

How do you think Hudson bagman Javier Inclan got his job in the Governor's office in the first place? The party bosses put him there because he was their guy. He was their eyes and ears in the Governor's inner sanctum.

Many of us thought that independently wealthy Jon Corzine would be independent of party bosses. How wrong we were. Instead, he wines and dines them. Then he funds their corrupt party machines and protects and coddles them. Instead of using his personal wealth as a sword against them, he uses it to fuel them.

Corzine has sought no substantive reforms in the way politics is played in New Jersey. And he's been silent on important reform legislation such as the "Party Democracy Act".

Can this guy rehabilitate himself before the 2009 election?

Jeanine LaRue

I am thinking Corzine probably wishes he had something to do with the success of Jeanine LaRue.  She is a woman who established her own caliber, have you ever seen her resume, bio, etc.?  She is very seasoned and I have witnessed Jeanine LaRue being sought out for her knowledge, experience and diplomacy. When they say dynamite comes in small packages they mean Jeanine.  She is a honest genuine person with a great affection for people.  To see you insinuate that her successes are contrary to merit is unjust to the struggles and hard work Jeanine endured before achieving the success she so richly deserves. Not everyone will follow your lead while attempting to disfigure  Jeanine's journey through life.  I'll pray for you!

Are people after Jeanine Larue again?

I thought her siege from the right was over....Glad she got outta that Corzine camp. Its a mess!

Perhaps I misunderstood your post -

It seems that you believe that Corzine made a phone call for Jeannine to go to Rutgers. Why would he have to make a phone call? Jeannine has tremendous experience and credentials. She really is a phenomenal woman.
