Pennacchio and Sabrin raise equally, spend differently
By Matt Friedman, PolitickerNJ.com ReporterRepublican Senate candidates Joe Pennacchio and Murray Sabrin have raised roughly equal amounts of money, but Pennacchio has a much larger cash reserve.
Pennacchio has raised $361,710 for his U.S. Senate candidacy so far -- including the two weeks that have passed since the Federal Election Commission's March 31st cut off date. At least some of that money was put in by Pennacchio, who said he didn’t know off the top of his head how much he’s donated to his own campaign. He currently has 279,081 cash-on-hand.
“The only thing I can tell you is this: compared to some of the other self-funding candidates, the money I’ve put in to date is not that significant,” said Pennacchio.
Rival candidate Murray Sabrin has raised a roughly equal amount to Pennacchio, but has spent much more.
Last quarter, Sabrin raised approximately $350,000, according to his spokesman George Ajjan. $200,000 of that has come from donations averaging just under $150, from donors in 19 New Jersey counties and 48 states. $150,000 of the total came from Sabrin’s own pocket.
But Sabrin has spent $284,000, leaving him with about $66,000 cash-on-hand.
The other Senate candidate, Dick Zimmer, entered the race after the FEC’s cut off date and will not have to file until next quarter.
