Earlier this week, Assemblyman Paul Moriarty announced that he wouldn’t stand for reelection for his other elected office: mayor of Washington Township (the one in Gloucester County).
The announcement came less than a week after Moriarty’s name surfaced as a potential replacement for first district Rep. Rob Andrews, who’s vacating the seat to take on incumbent Senator Frank Lautenberg in the June primary.
According to Moriarty, that’s purely a coincidence.
“I felt as though what I set out to do as mayor I had accomplished, and it was time to move on. I also voted to end dual office holding last year, and I’m living up to that commitment this year,” he said.
Moriarty stressed that he isn’t lobbying the party for the Congressional seat. And his name doesn’t come up at the top of the contender list (right now state Sen. Dana Redd and Assemblymen Lou Greenwald and John Burzichelli seem to surface most prominently). But Moriarty’s not ruling it out either.
“I always keep everything open. Why limit yourself? Who knows what the future will bring?” he said. “I don’t have any aspirations. I haven’t asked anyone to consider me for congress. But never say never.”

Hope that a Moriarty possible consideration might fall right in line. Not just anyone but almost, will satisfy me replacing Rob Andrews; who knows no offense or defense; just about everything he did didn't, and everything he does doesn't
