Another Democrat in the 5th district

Another Democrat wants to challenge Republican incumbent E. Scott Garrett in the fifth Congressional district.

Sort of.

Roger Bacon, who said that he's actually a registered Republican, has filed to run as a Democrat against Rabbi/psychologist Dennis Shulman and lawyer Camille Abate.

Bacon, who is running under the slogan “Independent Democrat for Lower Energy Cost,” lives in Phillipsburg and runs a customized ceramic gift mug business called Luvmug.

But it's unclear whether Bacon will be able to continue his quest for the House seat as a registered Republican.  He does appear on the list of candidate put out by the Division of Elections.

"She accepted my signatures," he said of County Clerk Patricia Kolb.

Bacon has run before. In 1994, he ran as a Libertarian against then-incumbent Republican Marge Roukema, getting 2% of the vote.  Although a cursory search produced no results, Bacon said that at one point he may have also run for Mayor of Phillipsburg as a Republican.

"My thinking was to have my wife run as a Democrat and I’d run as a Republican, but she didn’t see the beauty of my plan," said Bacon.

Scott Garrett

Scott Garrett's district is probably the most conservative in the entire state and is one hundred percent safe.

safe

It's so safe his three opponents are unknown people, the first two are "progressives" running to redistribute income from the rich to the poor in a rich district....
The Dems "dream" candidate in 2006 was soundly defeated.
