Scotch Plains, NJ – Mayor Martin Marks, Republican candidate for Congress in the Seventh District, today announces that he is participating in the GOP Candidate’s Debate sponsored by The Westfield Leader and The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Times on Thursday, May 22nd from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at the Mountainside Borough Hall.
“With a few weeks remaining until the primary, I strong believe it is imperative for the voters of the Seventh District to see their Republican candidates for U.S Congress together, discussing the important issues that working families face each day. Voters need other options with respect to choosing a candidate other than a glossy piece of mail,” said Marks.
“Debates are a healthy process of allowing voters to truly unmask those candidates who are pretending to be something they are not. In this election, we are seeing such candidates as Leonard Lance and Kate Whitman loosely defining themselves as conservatives – actual experience and voting records say differently. I find it beyond reproach that these candidates would carry such a banner knowing that it’s invalid and lacks depth,” said Marks.
“The history of our election process in the Seventh District shows us that debates have been a vital part of educating the voters to the issues and the stand of the candidates on those issues. This debate and hopefully others will help the voters to get to really know the candidates and where we stand on the issues and I am looking for to the May 22nd debate,” concluded Marks.
Martin Marks is a lifelong resident of the 7th Congressional District who shares the concerns and values of families and taxpayers. He is the only true conservative in the field for the Republican primary, and will bring core Republican principles on taxing, spending, national security and more back to Washington. "Never forget, some of those shouting the loudest are the architects of the disaster we are now suffering. Do we really want another decade of economic failure? No, this spring it is time to clear away the underbrush to make room for growth. So, today, we stop sweeping problems under the rug. We will not hide our problems until
another day. And we are certainly not increasing the tax burden we place upon our people. Today, we are taking necessary and decisive action to reduce state spending and reform state government. The problems we have hidden for twenty years are evident for all to see. The day of reckoning has arrived. Some are saying, by their choice of policies, that we should descend further into debt and deficit, and risk driving more people out of the state with “temporary” tax increases that always turn out to be permanent. I say we must face up to our responsibility." -- Gov. Christopher Christie
