ANOTHER CHRISTIE "PAY TO PLAY" SCANDAL

For Immediate Release: Friday, May 29, 2009

ORADELL, NJ – Mayor Steve Lonegan, the conservative Republican candidate for Governor, responded today with disbelief upon hearing that his opponent Chris Christie is employing the exact type of questionable ethics that he has vowed to stop if elected governor.  Once again his close association with John P. Inglesino shows not only a lack of judgment but also points out Christie’s blatant hypocrisy.

After promising he would not accept donations from individuals who’d received no bid government contracts, Christ Christie received $100,000 from a fundraiser hosted by none other than Inglesino.  Now, after vowing to end pension benefits for part-time state employees, it has surfaced that Inglesino, one of Christie's top advisors, fundraisers and close friends, is enrolled to receive a pension as a part-time employee of State Senator Pennacchio.

When Inglesino lost re-election as Morris County freeholder, his pension growth stopped, yet his part-time position allows growth to continue. New Jersey deserves better than the same ‘good old boy’ political favoritism.

“The fact that one of Christie’s closest associates is double dipping from the same part-time pension funds that Christie promises to end is not only alarming but also insulting to the taxpayers of New Jersey,” Lonegan said.  “If he can’t prevent this type of disingenuous behavior within his own campaign, he cannot expect the voters of New Jersey to believe that he will follow through with his promise to end it in the state.”

“Considering his questionable record regarding ethics, sadly this news isn’t very surprising,” Lonegan said.  “As governor, I will end the pension program for part-time state employees and I can assure you that my closest friends and advisors will not be exempt.  Christie failing to denounce the actions of Inglesino, and choosing once again to avoid questions proves that Christie will be another Trenton empty-suit.”
