Press Release
For Immediate Release: Friday, May 28, 2009Oradell, NJ – Mayor Steve Lonegan, the conservative Republican gubernatorial candidate, called Mitt Romney’s endorsement of Chris Christie not surprising.“Mitt Romney was rejected by Republican Primary voters because he was a moderate trying to pass himself off as a conservative just in time to win an election,” Lonegan said. “Chris Christie has done the exact same thing in this race, so it follows that Romney would back him. This is a case of one fraudulent moderate trying to help another one. Republican voters will see through Chris Christie the same way they did Mitt Romney last February."Lonegan pointed out that the similarities between Romney and Christie do not stop there.“Just like Mitt Romney, Chris Christie has only served one term in office,” Lonegan said referring to Christies one term on the New Jersey Board of Chosen Freeholders. “Chris Christie has only received endorsements from left-leaning Republicans and if that’s any indication of how he will run the state, he’s the wrong person to lead New Jersey. We need a true change in Trenton and not more of the same failed John Corzine policies that have ruined the state of New Jersey.” “Even now, five days before the Republican primary, Chris Christie has refused to give a single detail regarding his tax or economic plans for New Jersey,” Lonegan said. “The voters in New Jersey know and understand my plan.”
