LANCE SHOWS WHY HE IS READY TO BE THE NEXT CONGRESSMAN OF THE 7TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
- First Debate Shows Very Real Differences Between Lance and Big Spender Linda Stender -
SCOTCH PLAINS - Stressing his pro-Israel, pro-environment and pro-taxpayer record of reform, Seventh Congressional candidate for Congress Leonard Lance laid out his vision for a better New Jersey in the first debate against his opponent Linda Stender.
"This campaign for Congress is about who can best deliver fundamental reform to Washington. Fundamental tax reform that will allow New Jersey's working families to keep more of their hard-earned money. Fundamental fiscal reform to stop the wasteful spending and borrowing that has wrecked havoc on our economy. And fundamental ethics reform to stop the partisanship and bring honor back to the halls of Congress. There are very real differences between Linda Stender and I on these issue of reform and I look forward to debating these differences tonight."
During tonight's debate, Linda Stender made a number of outrageous statements. Here are the facts:
FACT: Linda Stender has voted 67 times to raise taxes (public records).
FACT: Taxes went up 62 percent when Linda Stender was mayor and councilwoman (public records).
FACT: The Home-News Tribune said, "Stender doesn't have a workable plan for U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. In fact, what she proposes is downright dangerous, suggesting that a regional coalition of neighboring states -- including wannabe nuclear power and terror-promoter Iran -- should take over the job." (11/5/06)
FACT: Linda Stender has taken campaign contributions from "Big Oil," including $7,500 from Conoco Phillips (FEC reports).
FACT: Linda Stender supports Barack Obama's pledge to meet with Iranian President Ahmadenijad without pre-conditions (Home-News Tribune, 8/24/08).
FACT: Leonard Lance is a thoughtful, independent, bipartisan legislator. Former Governor Dick Codey said, "we'd be better off as a state and a society" with more like Leonard Lance (Star-Ledger, 3/30/08).
"Tonight voters saw the very real difference between Leonard Lance and Linda Stender," said Lance for Congress campaign manager Amanda Woloshen. "The fact is Linda Stender has made a career in Trenton and Fanwood of voting for more spending and higher taxes. Leonard Lance has a proven record in the Legislature of lowering taxes and fighting wasteful spending. The choice for voters couldn't be clearer."
