BARACK OBAMA GIVES BACK TAINTED CHARLIE RANGEL MONEY
WHY DOESN'T STENDER DO THE SAME?
-- Lance Campaign Once Again Calls on Linda Stender to Return Dirty Cash --
Green Brook, NJ - Lance for Congress today called on Linda Stender to follow the example set by Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and return all campaign contributions received from the ethically challenged New York Congressman Charlie Rangel.
The New York Post today reported that Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee has returned $100,000 check from embattled Rep. Charlie Rangel's political action committee. The entire New York Post article is below.
"Kudos to Barack Obama and the national Democratic Committee for giving back Charlie Rangel's tainted campaign contributions," said Lance campaign manager Amanda Woloshen. "For weeks, Linda Stender has remained silent on Rangel's sweetheart housing deals and unethical fundraising practices. Once again, we call on Linda Stender to cleanse herself of all of her questionable campaign contributions and return all of the money raised for her by Charlie Rangel. If Obama can do it, Stender can too."
NEW YORK POST
August 26, 2008 -- Sorry, Charlie - your money's no good.
Not as far as Barack Obama's Democratic Party is concerned, anyway.
A spokesman for the Democratic National Committee yesterday confirmed a report by The Post's Maggie Haberman that the DNC has returned a $100,000 check from Rep. Charlie Rangel's political action committee.
The Dems sent the money back, saying it violates Obama's ban on receiving money from PACs and lobbyists.
Of course, it certainly doesn't help that Rangel is also embroiled in a House Ethics Committee investigation into his four rent-stabilized apartments.
The Democrats certainly could use every bit of cash they can raise for what is shaping up as a neck-and-neck fall battle with John McCain and the GOP. But not Charlie Rangel's cash. How embarrassing.
