6 DAYS AFTER PROMISING AN ANSWER STENDER STILL SILENT OVER RANGEL
Even after Washington Post reveals new Rangel scandal.
The Washington Post revealed today that members of Congress and good government groups have urged a formal probe into the solicitation of funds by Congressman Charles Rangel of those who came before his Congressional committee to fund an academic center named after him. This comes after last week's New York Times reported that Rangel holds 4 rent controlled apartments, one of which was being illegally used as a campaign office. The Times criticized Rangel in a weekend editorial for his disregard to make affordable housing available to those in need, not for subsidized personal luxury (see articles below).
When challenged to return money raised by Congressman Rangel and cancel a fundraiser he is scheduled to hold with her, Stender said on Friday they would wait for Rangel's press conference that day to make a decision on what to do. Several days later, and with more scandals revealed, Stender has refused to speak out.
"Linda Stender has so far turned a blind eye to this unethical behavior. Her refusal to take a stand on this urgent issue shows she isn't going to Washington to change things, but to carry on politics as usual. It's time for Stender to do the right thing and return Rangel's money and cancel the fundraiser," said Lance Campaign Manager Amanda Woloshen.
