Senator Joe Kyrillos, (R-Monmouth/Middlesex), issued the following statement today after the Governor signed the bill into law that would establish the Local Unit Alignment Reorganization and Consolidation Commission:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
“Aside from the title, the bill the Governor signed into law today has many serious differences from my original proposal. Nevertheless, it is important that this issue be kept alive.          Â
New Jersey has 566 municipalities, 616 school districts, and 186 fire districts each with their own layer of bureaucracy.  This bureaucratic beast is at the root of our property tax predicament. Municipal consolidation and aggressive sharing of services must be part of the ultimate solution if New Jersey is to remain a place where families can afford to live.          Â
I hope that the very best and brightest people are chosen for the Commission, that they take their mission seriously and that their recommendations are heeded.â€?Â
