      Complete Desperation in the Closing Days of the Campaign

 (Peapack, NJ)…  “Leonard Lance claims to be ‘principled’ and ‘honest,’ but in a desperate attempt he is willing to do whatever it takes to get elected including purposely and systematically misleading voters,” said Anthony Attanasio, Campaign Manager for Kate Whitman.  Attanasio continued, “In an effort to run from his record of failed leadership in Trenton, Lance and his surrogates have accused Kate Whitman of being a liar, when in fact she has documented all issues regarding Leonard Lance’s record.”

 “The fact is, some of these same Trenton politicians supporting Lance now, made a completely different judgment of him just last November. They felt he was not fit to lead his Republican colleagues when they removed Lance from his leadership position.  They cited Lance’s eagerness to compromise with Democrats in Trenton, his meager fundraising results and the fact that Republicans lost numerous State Senate seats under his watch.  Politics does indeed make strange bedfellows.” said Attanasio.  

 Every television and radio advertisement, press release and mail piece put out by Kate Whitman has included documented facts with sources and cites listed for each statement.  Yet rather than refute the facts, Lance has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars accusing Kate of lying with direct mail attacks that make bald assertions with no supporting facts of his own.  Never once has Lance provided evidence to refute our documentation.   Lance may be trying to rewrite history for political expediency, but the voters are too smart to fall for that.”

 “Lance’s latest lie put out in a last minute ‘desperate tactic’ mailer is that Kate Whitman is the only Republican in New Jersey not opposed to Jim McGreevey’s illegal borrowing scheme,” Attanasio said.  “Leonard Lance knows that I, like every other Republican, unequivocally opposes the unethical fiscal tactics and unsound policy of the McGreevey administration,” avowed Kate Whitman
.
  “Bottom line, Kate Whitman is the only candidate discussing the issues with the voters and the only candidate to lay out her legislative agenda.  The voters appreciate that and will see through Leonard Lance’s last minute mud-slinging. I am confident they will be electing Kate Whitman to defeat Linda Stender in November,” concluded Attanasio.
