Leonard Lance’s Failed Leadership Highlighted
Kate Whitman is the Only Candidate in the Republican Primary To Offer a Legislative Agenda Putting Taxpayers First
(Peapack, NJ)… After 6 months of campaigning by candidates for the Republican nomination in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, and less then one week before the primary election on June 3rd, Kate Whitman is still the only candidate to lay out a detailed legislative agenda to change Congress and put taxpayers first with her “6 Point Plan.”
In strong contrast, her opponent Leonard Lance is running from his legislative record, including the fact that just last September, politicsnj.com named Lance “…among the weakest Senator Minority Leaders in decades.” Then last November he was removed from leadership by his own Republican colleagues, and now this year he has made legislative missteps which document that his self-proclaimed title of “fiscal conservative” is just that, a self-proclaimed title.
Leonard Lance continued his fiscal conservative charade in a news release attacking Governor Corzine for pushing to borrow $2.5 billion without voter approval. The funny thing is, Lance's own debt legislation, SCR-39, includes the loophole, which permits the borrowing he is now attacking. Two months ago, Assembly members Marcia Karrow and Mike Doherty, Leonard Lance's running mates in the Assembly, introduced a resolution in the Assembly to close Lance's debt loophole with ACR-168.[1]
Additionally, Lance, the Republican Senate Budget Officer pushed through committee a massive wasteful spending bill last Monday. Lance knowingly voted in committee to spend $ 68 million in non-existent state funds to expand a government welfare program which fails to collect millions owed to them, while paying out benefits to participants without knowing if they are even qualified.
Highlighting Lance’s record, Kate Whitman released a new television ad which can be viewed http://www.kateforcongress.com/mov/Leadership.tvad.mp4 Once on the homepage click the media link at the top of the page and then click on Leadership.
