"Assemblyman Cryan is always front and center when it comes time to having remarks about public policy issues, yet he is mysteriously silent on the governor's comments about revisiting the idea of raising tolls 800 percent or leasing state assets," said DeCroce. "Halloween isn't until tomorrow, so he can't be out trick or treating. But it is "mischief night," maybe he's figuring out another diabolical way to convince families that another toll increase is really in their best interest."
Corzine's remarks that he would consider revisiting his ill-conceived plan that was first floated early in 2008 were reported in the New York Times yesterday and in today's Asbury Park Press. A 40 percent toll increase on the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey Turnpike and Atlantic City Expressway was levied last December.
"Many of Assemblyman Cryan's constituents utilize the Parkway, but he has nothing to say about the governor's latest idea," continued DeCroce. "He's johnny-on-the-spot to defend Corzine's ideas to increase taxes and spending, but now he's missing in action. He needs to come out and tell us how the governor's comments were misunderstood or that he was misquoted.
"The truth is there's no defending an idea that the public rejected last year," stated DeCroce. This is not the time for Assemblyman Cryan to be trying on costumes that disguise him so he won't have to answer questions on how the governor can think about hurting residents again.
"The governor can try and backpedal all he wants about what he said, but no one believes him," said DeCroce. "People have heard his lies before, and no one believes that he won't raise tolls if he gets the chance. Assemblyman Cryan must be more concerned with the World Series than explaining why people should not be alarmed about another toll increase."
