Myers Blasts Adler over Failed NJ Economy
Points to Non-partisan Tax Foundation Data Revealing NJ is the 2nd Least Business-Friendly State in Country, and has the 2nd Highest Sales Tax
Mount Holly, July 16, 2008-Congressional candidate and successful businessman Chris Myers today released the following statement in response to a report from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development that indicated New Jersey has lost 14,100 jobs in the first six months of 2008 and that state's jobless rate stands at a higher level than it has for the past twelve months.[http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2008/07/nj_lost_4100_jobs_in_june.html ]
"The failed tax, spend and borrow policies of John Adler and Jon Corzine are coming home to roost and costing hardworking residents their jobs," said Myers, who as a Vice-President at Lockheed Martin has helped to create thousands of good-paying jobs throughout the region. "The non-partisan Tax Foundation reports that under the Adler-Corzine team, New Jersey is the 2nd least friendly state for businesses in the country, has the 2nd highest sales tax in the country and socks it to homeowners with the highest property taxes in country."
Myers said Adler's lame attempts to take his words in a radio interview out of context are intended to divert attention away from the fact that under Adler and Corzine's failed leadership, NJ is a terrible place to do business and an increasingly unaffordable place to live.
"The nation's economy is struggling and people are hurting," said Myers. "While there is much blame to be placed on Washington, the culprits here in New Jersey like John Adler and Jon Corzine are to blame as well. Their failure to accept any responsibility is typical of the out-of-touch, corrupt culture they've created in Trenton that is destroying our State."
Myers added he was eager to match his record against Adler's any time. "I am eager to debate, and put my record as a job-creating businessman against John Adler's failed record as big-taxing, job-killing career Trenton politician any day of the week," said Myers.
NOTE: The Non-Partisan Tax Foundation's Tax Climate Index compares the states in five areas of taxation that impact business: corporate taxes; individual income taxes; sales taxes; unemployment insurance taxes; and taxes on property, including residential and commercial property. NJ is ranked 49th while neighboring states ranked as follows: Pennsylvania (27th) and Delaware (9th).
