WATSON COLEMAN ON BETTER-THAN-EXPECTED TAX AMNESTY REVENUE REPORT (TRENTON) - After Governor Jon S. Corzine's announcement today that the state's tax amnesty program generated better than anticipated revenue numbers for the FY2010 budget, Assembly Majority Leader Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Mercer) issued the following statement:"The good news today about the overwhelming success of our tax amnesty program is another indicator that New Jersey is in the vanguard when it comes to recovering from the global economic recession."The efforts Governor Corzine and legislative Democrats have undertaken over the past 10 months to ensure the state would emerge strong from this economic crisis continue to bear fruit."We understand that today's good news is not a license to spend. Rather, it is a benchmark that proves our focus on fiscal prudence and core Democratic values - education, health care and protecting our most vulnerable - resonates with New Jersey residents."Over the next several days, we will work to insure this increase in revenue upholds our pledge to provide as much property tax relief as we can in this economic climate."On the Net:http://www.youtube.com/user/njassemblydemshttp://www.facebook.com/pages/Trenton-NJ/New-Jersey-Assembly-Democrats/65894455504http://www.assemblydems.com/Subscription/SubscriptionSignIn.asp

"I think he could be more civil. This is not necessary. I wish him a lot of luck. I have seen enough to know that this is the toughest job in America. I would never, ever wish this job on my worst enemy." -- Joshua Zeitz, a spokesman for former Gov. Jon Corzine, on Gov. Chris Christie.

Oh brother...
"The good news today about the overwhelming success of our tax amnesty program is another indicator that New Jersey is in the vanguard when it comes to recovering from the global economic recession. Does she really think that lots of people being delinquent on tax payments is a sign that we are recovering? Maybe the reason there are so many delinquents is because the tax burden is so high after 110 tax increases. Just maybe, people have had a hard time paying the higher taxes. A sign of economic recovery would be unemployment rates declining. Well, they went up to 8.8% yesterday- higher than every surrounding state. Rates haven't been this bad since 1983. Another sign of recovery might be sales tax revenue increasing indicating people are buying again. Well, sales taxes revenues are in the toilet. This source of money is a one shot. It's use will result in an even bigger structural problem for the next governor. Bonnie Watson Coleman being giddy about more one shot funds to spend is frightening.
