MORIARTY MULTIMEDIA PACKAGE ON 'THE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS WARRANTY LEMON LAW' Measure Would Extend Lemon Law Coverage to Consumer Electronics, Warranties (WASHINGTON TWP.) - In advance of Black Friday - the day after Thanksgiving that typically marks the start of the holiday shopping season - Assemblyman Paul D. Moriarty (D-Gloucester) today issued a multimedia package on his legislation that would create a "Consumer Electronics Warranty Lemon Law."The measure (A-1002), which was released from the Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee in May, would regulate consumer electronics warranties, extended warranties and service contracts to provide consumers with uniform protections. The measure would mirror many protections consumers enjoy under the state's automotive lemon law.The multimedia package consists of a video on the topic, audio of same and a copy of the script as delivered. The video can be accessed directly via our Web site - www.assemblydems.com - or by clicking here. The audio file is available upon request. The script is appended below:"Since the turn of the century, personal electronics like smart phones, laptops, in-car GPS and even HDTVs and mp3 players have gone from being luxury items to everyday necessities."With the steep price tag many of these items carry, we consider purchasing them an investment."And many of us choose to protect that investment by purchasing extended warranties and service contracts."Unfortunately, the coverage provided from store bought warranties varies greatly from store to store and most of these types of warranties do not properly protect consumers from defective products."That's why I'm sponsoring A-1002 - the 'Consumer Electronics Warranty Lemon Law.'"Under my bill the warranties, extended warranties, and service contracts for any electronic device with a price tag of $250 or more would have to include specific protections against purchasing an electronic lemon."This way, you have a definite timeline for getting your electronics repaired and, if the item can't be repaired, you can get a new replacement or your money back."Because there's nothing more frustrating than a computer or a smart phone that isn't working the way it's supposed to."For more information on the Consumer Electronics Warranty Lemon Law, or for help with any other issues you might have, please feel free to contact my district office by phone or e-mail."On the Net: www.assemblydems.com

“She has already chosen the interests of the insurance industry over the health care needs of working people, she took millions from Wall Street as the economy went into a meltdown, and now she wants to purchase a job in Congress at a time when so many have lost their jobs because of the actions of big bankers and others." -- Monmouth County Democrats spokesman Mike Mangan, on Republican Diane Gooch, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone.
