ALBANO & MILAM: PROPOSED ETHICS REFORMS DESERVE FULL SUPPORT
Assemblymen Vow to Sponsor Measures, Fight for Swift Passage
(TRENTON) - Assemblymen Nelson T. Albano and Matthew W. Milam today fully endorsed an ethics package unveiled by Gov. Jon S. Corzine that would ban pay-to-play, curb the influence of special interest political contributions and enhance transparency in the reporting of campaign donations.
"For years, politicians on both sides of the aisle have talked about restoring the public's trust in their elected officials," said Albano. "Today we chose to stop talking and start leading by example. Closing pay-to-play and wheeling loopholes will show residents we are truly serious about re-earning their trust."
Besides simply endorsing the proposed ethics package, Albano and Milam (both D-Atlantic/Cape May/Cumberland) vowed to sponsor legislation required to make the proposals reality.
"We are totally committed to removing the stigma of corruption from New Jersey politics," said Milam. "With increasingly troubling economic times on the horizon, New Jersey residents need to have the utmost confidence in their elected officials. The reforms proposed today will go a long way toward doing just that."
The legislators said they planned to work with members in both houses to ensure swift passage of these essential ethics reforms as soon as possible.
