Continues Call for Corzine to Find Better Candidate to Lead BPU
Senator Jennifer Beck (R-12) is continuing her call for Governor Jon Corzine to nominate a person with experience, knowledge and no political baggage to lead the Board of Public Utilities.
"Residents who are facing skyrocketing utility bills deserve a competent professional formulating energy policy and deciding utility rates, " Beck stated. "Jeanne Fox has been president of the Board of Public Utilities for over 5 years and her tenure has been riddled with questionable acts that clearly ran afoul of state rules and policies. Past audits prove she has been a poor manager, with questionable decision making skills. The fact that there is a current whistleblower lawsuit in conjunction with a criminal investigation for possible waste of taxpayers' dollars should be an immediate red flag regarding her leadership."
Governor Corzine re-nominated Jeanne Fox despite a top BPU official alleging that Fox and others retaliated against him for alerting the state that Fox set up a secret $80 million account outside the supervision of the state treasurer. The Senate Judiciary Chairman said he will delay the vote on Jeanne Fox until after the whistleblower suit is resolved.
"Jeanne Fox has been a holdover candidate for several months now and the Chair of the Judiciary Committee has publicly stated that he will not consider her nomination until the whistleblower trial is over, " Beck continued. "The trial is not even scheduled to begin until October and no one can be sure if it will be delayed or how long it will last. Residents cannot and should not wait that long to have this situation resolved. I continue to call on Governor Corzine to find a much more suitable candidate to lead an agency that has such a significant impact on the daily lives of every New Jersey resident."
