Gloucester County Republican Freeholder candidates criticize budget

County Spending Is Up Again

Larry Wallace and Phyllis Scapellato say spending should be down

Woodbury, NJ – Gloucester County Republican freeholder candidates Larry Wallace and Phyllis Scapellato say the new Gloucester County budget is irresponsible.

Larry Wallace asked, “Why would anyone increase spending in these tough economic times?”

“At a time when families are forced to reduce their spending this Freeholder Board has the audacity to pass the county’s largest spending plan ever,” Larry Wallace said. “We should be reducing spending while lowering the tax burden on county residents.”

“For Stephen Sweeney and his deputy Robert Damminger to brag about maintaining the tax rate is ridiculous,” Phyllis Scapellato added. “It’s obvious the reason the tax rate didn’t increase is there are new ratables. This Freeholder Board had the opportunity to reduce spending and lower the tax burden. They missed that opportunity.”

“Tough times call for tough decisions. This Freeholder Board lacked the courage to make the tough decisions that could have saved taxpayers money,” Larry Wallace said.
