Theresa Lappé, Candidate for Mayor and Joseph Bowe, candidate for Council, today announced their campaign theme for the fall municipal race in Washington Township. The Theme, "Lean, Clean, and Green" has to do with how they will run Washington Township government when elected.
"Lean" government. Every department will review their budget for all possible savings, reducing expenditures and personnel cost, which will keep taxes low.
"Clean" government. Our administration will have no "Pay-To-Play" which is a hidden tax that increases the cost of government on the backs of taxpayers.
"Green" government. We will appoint a committee to review all Washington Township municipal operations for environmentally friendly practices. We will participate in the "Recycle Bank" program, which rewards residents who increase recycling, and saves landfill fees.
"We not only will run an environmentally sound government, but will do so in a manner that keeps our local taxes as low as possible," stated Lappé.
"Our senior citizens on fixed income can not afford the ever increasing tax burden," stated Bowe. "The recent budget, with a whopping 17.8 cent increase, is harmful to all our residents, and our administration will do a better job of keeping our municipal government lean," continued Bowe.
"I find it hard to believe that my opponent for Mayor, Matt Lyons, and his running mates, haven't even bothered showing up at council meetings to express their thoughts on this burdensome budget, introduced by their fellow Democrats," stated Lappé. "Our residents can't afford to continue down the same path. Many will be forced to move out of Township if something isn't done to control taxes. Our plan, ‘Lean, Clean and Green' will make Washington Township a better place to live and raise a family."
