Washington Township, NJ (July 25, 2008) – Republican mayoral candidate Theresa Lappé and council candidate Joe Bowe are wondering where the Democrat candidates have been during the budget hearings in Washington Township. They stated, "The township residents faced with a sluggish economy and record gas prices need elected officials who actually care about the township budget.”
"It is incredible that any member of the township council would actually claim the budget presented was the most fiscally responsible thing to do," said Republican mayoral candidate Theresa Lappé. “It implies they’ve been doing nothing for the last four years.”
Republican council candidate Joe Bowe added, “The Democrats have mismanaged the taxpayers’ hard earned dollars and it has caught up with them. We will give the residents and business owners a fair and honest voice in government. We will examine every expenditure and make the necessary cuts before making a decision."
Lappé asked, “Where were Matt Lyons and his running mates during the introduction of this budget? We can only assume by their conspicuous absence and silence, that they support these crushing tax increases.”
“Given their absence from just about everything and their silence on every issue, it’s painfully obvious our opponents do not care about what’s happening to Washington Township’s taxpayers and the 17.8 cent tax increase,” concluded Bowe.
