SWEENEY HONORED BY AGUDATH ISRAEL OF NEW JERSEY AT 2ND ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST

SOMERSET – On Sunday, Senate Majority Leader Steve Sweeney was honored by the members of Agudath Israel of New Jersey at their 2nd Annual Legislative Breakfast at the Regency Jewish Heritage Home for the Aged in Somerset.

“I appreciate the kind words from the members of Agudath Israel, and pledge to work closely with them as we address issues concerning New Jerseyans of the Jewish faith,” said Senator Sweeney, D-Thorofare. “As we know, the concerns of New Jersey’s substantial Jewish population are oftentimes the concerns of all New Jerseyans. We all have an interest in more affordable government, better services, and more cost-efficiency at all levels, and I think we can benefit by incorporating the ideas and input of people from all faiths and backgrounds as we attempt to solve these problems for all the people of the Garden State.”

Senator Sweeney joined a bipartisan group of honorees at the Legislative Breakfast Sunday morning, including United States Senator Robert Menendez, Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean, Jr., R-Westfield, Assemblyman Gary Schaer, D-Passaic, Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon, R-Little Silver, and Lakewood Committeeman Menashe Miller. Last year’s honorees included U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg, Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Barbara Buono, D-Edison, Senator Jenn Beck, R-Red Bank, Senator Ray Lesniak, D-Elizabeth, and Lakewood Deputy Mayor Meir Lichtenstein

Senator Sweeney applauded members of Agudath Israel for getting involved and for working together to promote issues of importance to the State’s Jewish community. He noted that, particularly during times of political or economic uncertainty, that it’s important for diverse groups to work together for common solutions.

“We’re living in difficult times, and we need to be able to come to the table with people of different insight and perspective in order to develop the best policies to govern all New Jerseyans,” said Senator Sweeney. “Groups like Agudath Israel, the Association of Jewish Federations, and others help create a strong voice for Jewish residents living in New Jersey, and provide invaluable input in major decisions concerning the direction of the State. I’m proud to work closely with the members of Agudath Israel, and look forward to a productive and meaningful dialogue well into the future.”
