Jersey City Councilwoman to Seek County Wide Term In November

(Jersey City) – Hudson County Democratic Chairman and State Senator Bernard F. Kenny today announced that the Hudson County Democratic Organization has selected Jersey City Councilwoman Willie L. Flood to run as its nominee for county register. Councilwoman Flood is running for the seat currently held by Register Barbara Donnelly, who is retiring after completing her second term this year.

“Councilwoman Flood has a great record of accomplishment as a teacher, a school board member and a councilwoman in Jersey City and I am proud that she is taking that experience to work on behalf of all the people of Hudson County, said Chairman Kenny.

"Willie Flood has a long history of serving the residents of Hudson County. Aside from her wide range of experiences she will also add an important new voice to county government. I am certain she will be an inspiring member of the HCDO team as she works to be elected as County Register and to elect Democrats across the county," said Senator Robert Menendez.

Councilwoman Flood has dedicated over four decades to public service in Hudson County, as an elementary school teacher at Jersey City P.S. #22, an assistant principal at Whitney M. Young, Jr. School, as a Jersey City Board of Education Member and as Jersey City Councilwoman At Large.

“I look forward to having Councilwoman Flood go to work on behalf of all Hudson County families, said Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise. “Her tenacity and her work ethic will serve all the residents of this county well.

“As a fellow educator, I know how much Willie Flood cares about the future of Hudson County and its children, said Senator Joseph V. Doria, Jr. (LD-31). “I am incredibly pleased that she is taking her talents and putting them to work on behalf of all Hudson County families.

“Councilwoman Flood and I have worked together for many years in the Jersey City public schools and in public service to improve the quality of life for generations of Hudson County children, said Assemblyman Charles Epps (LD-31). “I am proud that she will be continuing her fine record of public service on the county level.

When elected, Willie Flood will become the first African American woman and the second woman in the county’s history to hold of the office of Register.

“Councilwoman Flood and I have a longstanding work history, said Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy. “I have seen firsthand her dedication and commitment to serving the residents of Jersey City and know that she will also be a valuable asset to the County in her new capacity as registrar.

“Councilwoman Flood will bring experience and diversity to Hudson County and we are lucky to have her serve all our residents as ably as she has the residents of Jersey City, said Freeholder Jeffrey Dublin (District 3).

The main purposes of the County Register are recording, filing and preserving all formal written documents affecting real property within the County.

“I am proud to accept the nomination of the Hudson County Democratic Organization, said Councilwoman Flood. “This is an organization that truly cares about promoting diversity and I am honored to run on its slate. I look forward to working on behalf of all the people of Hudson County in the coming years.
